One Sleepy board
« on: July 23, 2012, 06:31:23 AM »

Years ago, Syracuse was a vibrant, very competitive market with some great sounding radio stations.  Since I haven't been in the area for years, I'm not sure what it's like today.

But I can tell you this - the powers that be at Radio-Info might has well turn this one off because it's one "sleepy board" and has been for a couple of years or more.

What's with you Salt City guys?

Yes, this board has become sleepy in the last year or so.  Part of the problem is the Clear Channel (and other owners) philosophy that has taken hold in Syracuse & Utica. Laying off jocks, and support staff, voice tracking, has homogenized both markets. There just isn't that much to write about anymore.  Not enough people working in the biz and not much going on. A lot of the people who used to write here have left the market or just don't have any passion for radio anymore.  They have moved on.
Another reason this site has slowed down may because of Peter Naughtons excellent  CNYradio site. http://www.cnyradio.com/  It has the latest poop of what's going on in both markets and has a comment section.

Agreed.  It's hard for people to trade barbs like they used to, when those people have either been replaced by automation, or for the survivors, what little free time they had has been gobbled up by picking up the slack left behind by those who've been replaced by automation.

But there are still big stories every so often.  They aren't as often or as shocking as they used to be, but I would keep the board open.  It's not like the bulletin board software is charging the site by the board.  Doesn't hurt anyone to keep it going, even if isn't always as active as it used to be.

Personally, I've found that there's plenty of local broadcasting chatter on syracuse.com and topix.com, but most of the threads there are just petty name-calling and other unfounded trash.  Although this board may have become "sleepy" by comparison, most of the posts here lately are worthwhile.  There might not be something new here every day, but when there is, you know it'll usually be something useful.

Proof in the puddin':  Big news in Utica radio with Roser spinning off 3 of his stations and WHO's buying them.  Nothing on this site about it. But it's all on CNYRadio.com.  Seems like there should be some discussion here about it.

The amazing thing is that they could have bought 92.7 for that amount of money as the Spring ratings show that its over for the "over the hill gang" at 92.7!
