In reading news about the potential new home of the Yankees, one common theme seems to be that John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman should be replaced. Personally, I have always wondered how such a iconic franchise could have average announcers. But my question is who would take over for these two if they were replaced? would they go national? could Michael Kay slip back into the radio booth? any replies are appreciated.

The Steinbrenner's adore Ma and Pa Yankee. They adore Kay too which is why he'll be the lead announcer on YES until he decides to go away. He won't go back to radio over TV. Much bigger audience and money on the TV side. If they go to ESPN, you'll likely see some ESPN personalities slide in to take on announcing duties or they'll import someone from elsewhere in baseball.

in a daily news article on weds 4/25 it said if the yankees go to espn radio they(the yankees) will have final say on the announcers.so sterling and waldman might be staying.

That sounds great. I think the Yankees should hire a color analyst, and find a way to keep Waldman involved in radio network coverage. Say what you will about Sterling...and if you look around, people do, but he does a serviceable job on the games... up until he does his rehearsed home run calls. Thanks a lot.

I mute the tv and put on the radio, its a few seconds delay but it beats hearing the newscasters talk about twitter and miss half the progress during the game-Who cares about all this? I'm trying to watch the game!

It should be a finish the sentence Game: Make it fair for the Mets fans. New York has the greatest teams in the entire country. We are the greatest metro area ever. We rule! Anyway I hope that they keep the Yankees on AM too because I enjoy hearing them on AM if I'm out of the NYC area

It would be cool if the yankees did stay on AM, because on occasion, I can get 660, and 880 where I live, and that's the appeal of being on a 50.000 watt class A station(KMOX, WTAM, WLW, WCBS, KIRO).but it sounds like if this were to happen, the Yankees would have to go to WFAN, which isn't out of the question.

That's one of the few benefits of HD radio. WCBS on 101.1-HD3 is delayed, so I can sync up the TV to the radio. WCBS 880 is live so that fans in the stands can follow the action. If you noticed there's no IBUZ on 870 and 890 during Yankee games.

I delay the radio coverage through a TiVo and sync the Rays broadcast with the TV. But I have to listen to an analogue feed so I don't listen to WDAE during the daylight hours as a result of HD. I have the advantage of an LPFM for the Broadcast locally.
