Kiss-FM's Last Song On 98.7?
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:08:00 PM »

You knew this thread was coming, folks...

I opt for The Manhattans' "Kiss And Say Goodbye." Not just because the group name doubles as one of New York's boroughs, but of course, the title... duh.

By the way, just so we're all on the same page... This switch is expected to take place Monday morning, not Sunday morning, right? I have seen some sources report the flip being "at 12:01 AM Sunday".

Good choice. After all, you guys will be saying goodbye to Kiss.

"Last Dance" from Donna Summer could be another choice, along with "End Of the Road" or "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye" from Boyz II Men.

How about "Never Can Say Goodbye" by either the Jackson 5, Gloria Gaynor. or Isaac Hayes or "One Last Cry" by Brian McKnight. That might be a good way end the station with.

The Switch is on Monday at 12:01 AM.  Last song on 98.7 will play right before Midnight Sunday. For those of us who don't want to stay up and listen to the switch someone will probably record it and summit it to the format change website  (www,formatchange.com)

The normal Sunday Lineup on 98.7 Kiss FM is as follows - obviously subject to change this weekend - we'll have to see how many WBLS and/or WRKS shows air this Sunday (and in the future, for that matter):

http://www.987kissfm.com/kissguide/

5-10am Toya Beasley - KISS Inspirations
10am-Noon Bob Slade, James Mtume + Bob Pickett - Open Line
Noon-6pm Felix Hernandez - Rhythm Revue
6pm-9pm Andre Harrell - Champagne And Bubbles
9-10pm Rev. Al Sharpton - Hour Of Power
10-11pm Bob Slade - Soul Beginnings
11pm-Midnight Bob Slade and panel - Week In Review

While we're at it, the normal WBLS Sunday lineup:

6-8am Sunday Morning Celebration with Bishop Hezekiah Walker
8-10am Donnie McClurkin Show
10am-3pm This slot had been hosted by the late Brian Carter - R.I.P.
3-6pm Sunday Classics - Hal Jackson with Debi B. and Clay Berry
6-8pm Express Yourself / The GBE with Imhotep Gary Byrd
8pm-Midnight Carribean Fever with Dahved Levy

10am-3pm This slot had been hosted by the late Brian Carter - R.I.P.

That is ironic. Two dramatic turns of events for WBLS within a week's time.

Hal Jackson and Felix Hernandez hosting an oldies show together?  It seems to me that Jackson is an institution at BLS and will only retire when he wants to.  And could Toya and Bishop Walker do the gospel music show together?

Sean Ross has a column about the departure of KissFM here on radio-info.com -

link: http://www.radio-info.com/programming/urban/kiss-fm-goes-out-on-an-up

and a column written last summer upon the station's 30th anniversary:

http://www.radio-info.com/programming/urban/new-yorks-987-kiss-turns-30

With regard to this weekend: it seems (to me, just by conjecture) that the KissFM programming will have the run of the 98.7/107.5 simulcast since it's a "Goodbye to KissFM" weekend. Sean mentions in his column that WBLS has sprinkled in some commercial stopsets while the music continues on Kiss. So, for the weekend, the better/fuller listening experience will likely be had over the 98.7 frequency. To be determined...

The 107.5 on-air feed is a few seconds ahead of the 98.7 on-air feed.
The WBLS.com internet feed is a few minutes (usually 1 to 2 songs) ahead of the 987KissFM.com internet feed.
The 987KissFM.com audio player/internet feed has updated song/artist tag info while the WBLS.com audio player/internet feed does not.

For those out of town, listen online via:

WRKS Stream AAC - direct URL: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WRKSFMAAC.pls   64 K 44.1 kHz stereo AAC

I'd think it would be appropriate for Bob Slade (as part of "The Week In Review" on Sunday night from 11pm-Midnight) to be the last voice heard on KissFM as he's been an integral part of the station's fabric for decades, joining FM 99 WXLO in 1980 as news director - a year before the relaunch of the station as 98.7 KissFM.
Slade's KissFM bio: http://www.987kissfm.com/Airstaff/BSlade.aspx

Dr. Bob Lee is usually heard Midnight-5am weeknights on WBLS. I don't know if there is another host on early Monday mornings, but possibly his show will be the first heard on the new "One Family. One Station. Our Voice" WBLS.

Possibly a mixture of some of the Kiss shows and the WBLS shows will appear next weekend...of course, depending on current and future agreements, contracts, syndication, possible transferring of employees, etc. To be determined...

Anything you hear this weekend will be meaningless. The decision has been made.

I'd be watching Hot 97 closely after this.
