Wasn’t 98.7 in NY originally “The Big Town Sound”?

Don't remember that.

If Hot97 Sounded like Kiss FM tonight it would crush Power 105.

Back in the last days of the WOR-FM calls and the WXLO Bill drake was programing the station and The Big Town Sound  was a phrase I remember from one of the Jingle packages.  You would hear  "The Big Town Sound" Followed by  either WOR - FM  New York  or WXlO  New York.  I can't remember which set of calls  The Big Town Sound was associated with but it was one of them.

Yep! It was WOR-FM and it was the first FM Top 40 station competing with its AM rival WABC. Bill Drake made it best, there is a link to WOR-FM if you want to see it.

Since we're talking about 98.7 from the 1960's, here's their first set of jingles from 1966, featuring "The Sound Is..." .. this pre-dates "The Big Town Sound" ..

Ebro Darden needs to get his brain on focus and do what Kiss FM is doing right now before the merger....Ed Lover being fired?? How about this...The former staff members want to "destroy" the station before ESPN takes over.

MAKE A BIG MESS PEOPLE SO IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE FOR ESPN TO CLEAN UP!

Kiss FM should play all urban music including the ones with offensive language...

As childish as that sounds, it will not be relevant to the 98.7 signal. Since it will be attracting a different audience, there will be nothing to apologize for, or "mess to clean up", as you put it, since the people tuning in after the change will not have heard it to begin with. Except for the children trying to apply as adults for jobs at other stations. They will have "a lot of 'splainin' to do, Lucy" for their actions.
