It was just cheap background noise to keep the transmitter warm.
I know you remember as we sat listened to the flip from country to oldies..  It was just stupid.  Lets hope that when they make a move it actually is stunted.  That would sound so much better ! Grin

106.7 should have stayed Classic Country. Eagle 106.7 was a classy operation.

I respectfully disagree.  IMHO a lengthy stunt (more than 60 seconds) is going to confuse any body who is tuning for the new format.  A large number of Radio Geeks get excited but [/b]most of us [/b]do not have PPM units so we don't count.  Had Citadel not been bought out by Cumulus some form of oldies: either True Oldies (which did OK and even beat 97.1 one month 6+ but older demos) or R & S and Atlanta's Greatest Hits (which was doing OK before Cumulus) would still be on 106.7.   I can understand the temptation for somebody to go all news when you consider some of the top billing stations in the nation are all news.  I always thought it would be CBS with ratings challenged 92.9 since they have WINS, WCBS, and WBBM and lots of all news experience.

Having just moved from the Bay area, I listened to KGO after the change, and it wasn't all that impressive, especially compared to their competition at KCBS. I don't know if they have changed much in the last 4 weeks.

I'm a bit saddened to hear WYAY is changing, though. Although the oldies format there never did much for me, I thought it had a tremendous upside if done well.

Dang... sure do miss being in ATL...

WKRP, Dallas, GA from 1977-81. Did on air and engineering at WRFG 1979-80. During college GM for WGHR Southern Tech. While there we put the FM on the air with a whopping 16.5 watts ERP w/70' HAAT.Occupation:Movie Theatre Owner

I mentioned earlier that Cumulus owned KGO (mostly news) in San Fran has tired imaging and I contrasted that to WINS or WNEW (the new CBS newser in DC).  Today in TRI's News/Talk column they talk about jingles.  Specifically, they mention new technology that CBS is using at WINS (1010 WINS) and WNEW to make the music/jingles match the tempo of what is happening.  The on air talent can make that happen on the fly.  The software is how WINS and WNEW are doing those dramatic headlines at the beginning of each segment (20 minute segment on WINS and 30 minute segment on WNEW).  Those segments make you want to hear the story and make the station very destinctive.   If Cumulus goes the route of KGO, it just sounds boring.

Here is the link for the TRI news/talk jingle column:

I can tell you that all the engineers involved at Cumulus are doing a teriffic job at Interstate Pkwy. turning the former studio's of WKHX and the entire floor into a first rate facility. They have been busting their butts. Good job guys!

It's about time for a city Atlanta's size. Yes, another oldies station has been sacrificed, but WSB won't go all-news. Not with Clark Howard in the way. Let's see how Cumulus does it.

Not surprisingly, business updates will come from the Atlanta Business Chronicle...

I listen briefly this morning and it sounded as if Kristin Charles was broadcasting from her bedroom. Then traffic came on. Don't get me started, it sounded as muffled as a cardboard box studio. NOT GOOD!

Everybody says they hate Cumulus. Well, they did just launch an almost perfect All-News station in the ATL. Now that takes some skill. #GoMcVayAndDickey
