5 news choppers in Orlando?
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:49:27 AM »

I know NBC, ABC & CBS have helicopters locally.  Fox says they have one (I haven't seen it...and it seems to only be used in the morning, and the picture is always cutting out), or are they sharing one?  Who has the supposed fifth chopper?  A local Spanish station?  News 13?

CF News 13 does have one, I believe.

I think there are more than 6 radio station choppers.
I'm sure there are others working in radio here in Orlando that own a motorcycle.    Cheesy

Granted I've been out of Orlando for a while... but it used to be that no Orlando radio stations owned nor operated choppers.  WDBO leased a fixed-wing aircraft.

WESH, WKMG, and WFTV operated choppers.  I don't know if they owned them, but they did operate them.

CFN 13 and WOFL were sharing use of a chopper owned by Metro Networks.  I don't know who owns that chopper in light of the Clear Channel takeover.  This chopper had a CFN logo on the exterior and and WOFL logo inside the cab.

Yes indeed Fox 35 has a copter, unlike all of the other TV stations 2, 6, and 9 utilizing Bell Jet Ranger's, Fox has a smaller more reliable and economical R-22, (Robinson-22) a small 4-seater.  Channel 9 utilizes the larger of all the helicopter's serving TV viewer's throughout Central Florida, 5-blades seats about 6, two more or so then normal, suck's more JP-5 fuel in 15 minutes then your car would use all-week with an hourly operational fee of roughly $ 850.00.  Yes they're all leased and share operational expenses with a handful of radio station's in town when they think the need em for something or another....

I find that to be a tongue in cheek way of looking at the helicopter thing....!

So go and lease one and have some "FUN"!
