Every GM (except at Cox) has got to be looking at the market reseach and consulting with corporate and consultants on this one. WPCV is NOT Orlando. You flip Power or Jamz to country, make it current, hip, add killer imaging, get solid talent in and you have a winner. There are three Spanish stations, three Urbans, 2 AC/Hot AC's, etc...
There's room for a new country station, just commit long term, execute everyday and be patient!!!

Orlando will not support 2 Country Stations. COX learned that with the B94.5 Experiment years ago. The best That Can happen is CBS or Clear Channel will do a Country BETTER than COX,2 Years Down the Road COX throws in the towel.

The problem with that logic is that what you consider to be one format may be two or three formats. Soft AC is not the same as Hot AC. The demographics are different and the competitors are different. Urban AC is not the same as Urban or Churban. And "Spanish" is not a format, it's a language. There is a Spanish language CHR, a Spanish language rhythmic and a Spanish language oldies station in Orlando. They are not the same. The real issue is whether there is any potential for growth in the market total country shares; if you get, initially, 40% of the WWKA shares and a third of the revenue, you are billing around $3 million and that would be lower than the current billing of any full signal FM. WPYO bills less, but the fact that the signal is much more limited makes it a really, really poor choice for country.

Cox threw in the towel because B94.5 was gaining a better following than K92. You can't have the flanking station beat the cash cow. The audience is there. Orlando is one of the best selling markets for country music. It must be doing something right, you can hear Jason Aldean, The Band Perry and Lady Antebellum on Hot AC and Top 40 stations.

Lady Antebellum has, this week, two songs on the top 40 chart at Las 30 Principales, a CHR station in Santiago, Chile. In other words, the fact that there are crossovers does not mean anything in this context.

You can hear The Band Perry and Lady Antebellum on Z100 in NY. B94.5 was set up to fail. No one has tried to compete with K92 in what, 30 years? (If I recall correctly, 98.1 was aimed at Brevard when it was country, before it became Mega...).
