If you go to www.bertsucks.com it redirects you to Kidd Chris's page on Project 9-6-1. Is this a genius move? The new guy comes in to town and takes a swing at the biggest guy. It's kinda funny to me. Do stunts like this ever produce results?

The type of people that would listen to the Bert Show are not the types that would listen to Kidd.  I would think taking shots at TRG would seem more appropriate.  Bert is too conservative and laid back and always considers the youngsters riding with mom in the morning and keeps the show very family oriented.  Kidd... well... totally opposite.  TRG use to stay in trouble with things they said???  They have NEVER had anything on Kidd Chris.

Reminds me of Mark McCain talking about the weenies on either side of 96 Rock (Peach 95 and WSB 98/99 FM)

It does work when done effectively. But, like Acheron posted, it's misdirected in this case. Kidd Chris' listeners are more likely to listen to RG, not Bert. Although Chris might argue the RG audience isn't big enough to go after at this point...and he may be right.

Having said that, do the old school "radio wars" even work anymore? Remember when one host would trash another station on the air, then everyone wondered what the response would be? Is that even possible in this day and age?

I doubt it.  How would a VT guy (girl) know if another VT announcer is trash talking him on another station he can't hear because he is 500 to 1000 miles away?

Ha ha!! VERY good point!
But what about for the 1 or 2 guys that are still "live and local"? Does the old theory of "talk trash about someone until they acknowledge you" still work in today's media? Or radio specifically?

Reminds me of one day (back in the '60's) when WFOM started trashing WYNX*, the new top-40 station in Cobb county.

WYNX/1550 was a daytimer then, and WFOM was saying,  "WFOM! The station that doesn't run down at sundown." (They said this between every record.)

Well, I called a friend at WYNX and told him what WFOM was doing and started listening to WYNX. A few minutes went by and then I heard him say, "Some stations don't run down at sundown. They're run down twenty-four hours a day!"

I turned over to WFOM and never heard the "run down at sundown" bit again.  Cheesy It was great.

*It could have been WSMA when this happened.

So let me get this straight, station A trash talks station B, then a lot of listeners from station A listen to station B for the response, Why would station A even do anything that would send listeners to the competing station B unless you know station B is going to respond and send part of their listeners back to station A.  Back in the day with ownership caps of 1 AM and 1 FM would that not have been "collusion"?

Now with clusters trash talk between say Y106 (back when 106.7 was Country) and Kicks might be a good thing.  Did Moby and Rhubarb ever go at it on the air?  Now that could make for some interesting Radio.

That made about no sense.

Everybody says they hate Cumulus. Well, they did just launch an almost perfect All-News station in the ATL. Now that takes some skill. #GoMcVayAndDickey
