Rush attacking "mother's day sponsors" that dropped him, bad for stations?
« on: May 03, 2012, 02:17:37 PM »

I heard Rush mention by name two sponsors that dropped him are using his name on the Internet in conjunction with their products.  So search engine "rush...flowers" and they have a website that pulls up some of his former sponsors in conjunction with his name.  He said a copyright attorney emailed him and said he might have grounds for litigation.

Not being an attorney, maybe he has a point on this, however he seems to be indirectly trashing sponsors who support other programs and stations.

So in the 12 to 3 PM est block Rush says these people dropped him, and in the 9 to 12 est block, some other host or station is saying buy from these sponsors.  Is this a good idea?  I suppose he wants people to give his tea for Mother's Day and not a competing product.  Seems to be hurting other radio people and the stations that are caught in the middle.

Just bringing up the names of the 2 sponsors that dropped him during the Mother's Day season seems to be getting a little nasty, of course they dropped him...however any new RUSH sponsors might think if they advertise with him, then drop him, they might be targeted with negative commentary?

Why not let sleeping dogs alone  and move on?  Rush seems to have gotten new sponsor, conservative websites and think tanks, so why hurt your affiliates??

Couldn't agree more.

Why would any sponsor want to do business with a show that pulls that? Any potential clients would have to consider that if they too one day decide to drop their sponsorship, they may face the same condemnation.

Rush's ability to hold a niche audience grants him immense power. It's becoming quite apparent that the only entity capable of bringing him down, is him.

And he seems to be working on it.

...nothing new. When the Florida Department of Citrus refused to renew its sponsorship, after a sharp decline in juice sales related to Limbaugh's show, Limbaugh kept bitching that he "sold too much juice for them." Truth was, he didn't sell enough. His appearance in a Pizza Hut TV commercial around the same time also resulted in a drop in business for that chain...

Rush's listenership is about to go up...right N.O.W. Of course these new listeners are intending to knock him off the air
but they are listening to find out who his local sponsors are.

>>The catch, however, is that women who are active with NOW and the men who support them — whom Limbaugh often needles as the NAGs (National Association of Gals) and the “new castrati” — are actually going to have to listen to his radio show in order to identify and target those local advertisers.

The orange juice deal was interesting because it was "market orders" requiring farmers to pay for marketing of orange juice.  He took heat from libertarians and conservatives because it was the government mandating businesses participate in a group marketing plan.

As long as the new listeners don't have a PPM, does it matter?  And I'm sure they will only be paying attention to commercials, not show content.

I heard this too.  Did he do it more than once?  Seemed to me like he was being a little tongue-in-cheek and bragging to his listeners... that advertisers who so quickly dropped him fearing reprisal from the Fluke comments are still using his name to sell their product.

I doubt he'd bother to sue.  Seems like a waste of time.  Especially since the advertiser is now telling listeners to "Use Promo Code 'RUSH'" on other dayparts.

Along with the guys that service port-a-johns that has to be one of the worst jobs in the world.

Seems like the ads are conservative websites and groups... and the old standby credit monitoring company...and of course the tea.

After the election, I think some of the PAC-ADS will dry-up, no matter who is elected.
