Savage to WWIQ?
« on: May 08, 2012, 12:01:05 PM »

Haven't heard anyone mention the possibility.  He is one of the most listened to hosts so would he make a good fit in the evenings?  I know he's on 1180 but that station is very difficult to hear outside of the King of Prussia area.  Is he still on 990 in the middle of the night?

Any thoughts?

The new owner of WWIQ, Merlin, seems to have made a deal with Clear Channel's Premier syndication unit, and is planning to carry Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity, which are all syndicated by Premier.  And it will likely fill the entire schedule with Premier offerings.

Savage has a different syndicator, and probably won't be invited to the party.

I would imagine if you have a reasonably popular show and the price is right, you could end up on 106.9. Premiere's other talent is relatively unremarkable and probably doesn't command priority clearance. IQ might pick up Coast to Coast, but unless some of the lesser known Premiere content is offered up as a bargain, Savage, Ingraham and Levin would be better choices to attract and hold the daytime audience.

And everything's available in this town.

If I remember it right, Savage is on WNTP in the middle of the night stil , yes. This  was as of 7 months ago or so so I could be off. Also doesn't PHT carry  coast-to-coast?

Savage is on WNTP weekday mornings from 3 to 5 and on WFYL 1180 from noon to 3 and live 6 to 9PM weekdays. I imagine if IQ wanted Coast to Coast Conspiracy, Premiere would give it to them when 1210's contract is up. There are several syndicated overnight shows that would fit IQ, so C to C isn't a necessary acquisition.

Isn't WFYL a daytimer? So Savage would be live on 1180 from 6 PM till signoff (probably why they carry the next-day replay)...

True. They used to replay shows over their webstream all night, but now I think it goes silent after Savage.

FM NewsTalk 104.7 out of Pittsburgh carries the Premier lineup of Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity. They also carry Savage in the evenings too. So, don't discount that possibility based only on any deals with Premier.

1180 does get bad reception, but I am hoping they get Levin at 6:00 (it really sucks we can't get him live in this market), and some local talent for evenings after Levin.
