Bill Binnie Adds To His New England Portfolio
« on: May 08, 2012, 05:36:08 AM »

Along with radio veteran Jeff Shapiro, the owner of Channel 50 has acquired over two dozen radio stations in New Hampshire, as well as Maine and Vermont, from bankrupt Nassau Broadcasting via auction. Total price: $12.9 million.

Alright, any bets as to which station or stations get the you-know-they're=coming WBIN-AM or -FM call letters?

My guess is they'd both be in the Concord/Manchester market, with the WBIN-AM calls slapped on news/talker AM 1490 (WEMJ). As for the FM side... maybe, just maybe, one of the five FM stations in the market will be flipped to a simulcast of said news/talker...

The WBIN calls are currently in use by an AM station in Tennessee:

I am wondering how this is going to work out.... Shapiro is probably close to (if not already) being maxed out of as many stations as he can own in the Upper Valley (1230, 95.3, 96.3, 104.3, 106.1, 107.1) and owns at least one station in the Concord area (107.7A - Hillsborogh).    Will they have to spin some stations off in order to stay under the ownership limits in these areas?   I also believe the 3 Nassau signals in the Rutland area were part of their bid...  I wonder if that counts against what he owns in the Upper Valley since they are part of the same market.

Not so fast, says Goldman Sachs, which placed a $14 million reverse bid, eclipsing Binnie's $12.5 million bid.

Never mind - Goldman Sachs withdrew their bid:
