UCONN men's basketball has been on SNY for a few years, so I don't see this to be as big of a deal as many believe.  How much penetration does SNY have in CT?  Does SNY have carriage in the eastern part of the state?

It is available with Comcast in New Britain, but you need to have at least a digital starter package to get it. It had just started showing up here in New Britain in the last days of expanded basic being available without a converter (2009-10?).

U-Conn men's basketball on SNY was only this past season, I think? Or was that their football program?

Cablevision has SNY (60 in my neck of the woods) as does Comcast, Charter and Metrocast.

It was a pretty big battle in 2010, but Charter Northeast does carry SNY on channel 33.  Charter covers most of Northeast CT including Storrs/Mansfield/Willimantic (a few towns are served by MetroCast.)

The bummer is for people who don't have cable and rely on OTA signals, but it's not a huge surprise, this is the way most sports have gone.

The bigger bummer is for CPTV, this was a huge revenue and viewer generator for them.

Although I often ask people, "Which do you find more obnoxious, commercials or pledge drives?" and I'm surprised how many times I get "pledge drives."  Viewers might like this.

Yeah, I think being on an actual sports network will actually make the coverage better.  They'll probably have more pre and post game coverage than what CPTV provided (I have never watched a game so I don't know how good their coverage was).  Anyway, people are making a big deal out of this now, but after 1 or 2 games everyone will get used to watching on SNY and will forget the old days of CPTV.

The SNY deal will also get their games into NY, NJ, PA, and parts of MA.  More viewers=more $.

Given that they are one of the top teams in the country year in and year out and their home games weren't close to sell outs this year tells you something too.  I think this will drum up more fans across the northeast.

Also, the men's games and football games on SNY are produced by ESPN and streamed on ESPN3.  I would think the women's games will be too, making them available to anyone who wants to see them.

Isn't SNY under the same ownership as Comcast Sportssnet-New England??

(I thought Comcast had a big stake in SNY).

This might open the way for U/Conn women's basketball to be seen on CSN-NE (outside of Connecticut).

The folks that own SNY (Comcast, Time Warner and the Mets) are not the same folks that own CSNNE (Comcast and I believe Fox Sports? Used to be FSNNE but they have a minority stake in the channel).

They might show an occasional game since they do show ct suns games.
