Artie Shaw
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:58:31 PM »

I'm not aware that my Dial Global station plays anything by him, but they sure were running the commercial for the concert  that took place at the local college last night, and that commercial include "Begin the Beguine" and "Stardust". No, I didn't go. I don't have that kind of money.

Jeff played "Begin the Beguine" the first time he did "Big Bands Remembered", but Dial Global probably hasn't done it except in that feature.

I wonder how many stations are playing him, because his music sure sounds good.

VERY hard to hear any of the Big Bands on radio anymore. Sort of sad since most stations are stuck in that late 60's-early 80's stuff now.

I still play Artie on KZQX, but not as much as we used to. Listeners tell me that they like the big bands, but they also like some of the newer stuff too.  Finding a balance is a good trick.
