Yep - and he gets this year's Randy Michaels Milking It For What It's Worth Award for being able to take a long ago success and turn it into a lifetime career of blowing other people's money.

Except he used his own money to buy into Clear Channel and several other businesses he's run.

You can't deny Bob Pittman.

He was 20 when he took WMAQ in Chicago from 22nd to 3rd.

He was 22 when he took WKQX toward the top of the book.

He was 23 when he was a Program Director IN MARKET NUMBER ONE and topped his target demos with WNBC.

He was 27 when MTV launched, and then he oversaw the relaunch of Nickelodeon in the form we know today, as well as VH-1 and the Nick-at-Nite format.

After that, he increased visitors to Six Flags by almost 50% in the 90's.

After that, he oversaw growth at Century 21.

After that, he was the CEO that took AOL from 6 million to 30 million subscribers... 500%.

Those aren't all accidents.  Hate Clear Channel, but you can't deny the success of Bob Pittman.

Bain was lucky to get him, he's a brilliant guy.  Still hate the way CC operates though...

...actually, he does. Pittman is second only to Screw Hayes in brandishing a wholly undeserved positive reputation among programmers in commercial broadcasting...

And yet, you have no evidence that's it's "wholly undeserved," when there's a body of work that says otherwise.

Pittman has been successful as a programmer, he's been successful in business, and now he's successful running the biggest radio business.  The only big CEO I like more is Dan Mason.

Not yet as well known, but I'd add José Valle of Univision radio to the list of good large group CEOs.
