Let's see...  Looking at the maps...  One might think $14+ million for a redundant signal serving 1200's roughly 110,000 cume or 1430's 40,000 cume by blowing up a heritage station with a solid 200,000 cume a bit ridiculous.

Didn't CC try the Spanish bit with KSJO, 104.5 Philly and 104.1 Hartford?  Oh, thats right, they tried the "Power" bit in Hartford which went (w) PHH...  I wonder what format CC flipped those stations back to?

If it were Spanish it would probably be music or talk, or possibly sports

Insightful. Music, talk, or sports. What's left, control-tower chatter from Logan?

It's just another post from someone who thinks Spanish is a format and forgets it is a language and that there are many many formats possible.

However, there is no really successful Spanish language talk station on the US Mainland (the Miami one with the big shares has an average age of 72) and sports generally gets low right-of-the-decimal numbers even in markets with over 30% Hispanics.

Of the music formats, none have mass appeal across all national origin groups, so hitting even a 1 share would be a challenge.

Were the Logan tower chat in Spanish, it might do better than any of the already discussed possibilities.

I know it's a language, but I meant a format with content in Spanish, whatever specific format
they wind up doing.

So why does "tropical" music do so well in markets like NY and Miami? Both markets have large Puerto Rican and Dominican populations, and in Miami you have a third major presence in the Cubans. Is there really a common denominator, musically, that allows stations to bridge the cultural differences? If so, how come there's no such common denominator in the Boston market?

Although WXKS-1200 isn't the best 50,000-watt signal, it covers a much larger area than does 101.7.

As noted on Radio-Locator.com, WXKS-1430's nighttime signal area isn't that good (while it has a pretty decent daytime signal for a station on 1430 kilohertz).

That's why I'm still convinced 101.7 will simulcast (or even replace) 1430.

If "Talk 1200" goes to FM, I think Clear Channel would "blow up" either WJMN-94.5 or (more likely) WXKS-107.9. An FM version of that station, IMHO, needs a larger signal area than what 101.7 can offer.

Kiss 108 has been number 1 in every single PPM monthly report except the special "holiday" report.  Outside of Christmas, no other station has ever been #1 6+ in the PPM's in Boston.  Doesn't matter if it's 6+, it's an inexplicably successful station.

Kiss 108 isn't being blown up.

WXKS is the most listened to signal in the market - CC is not going to touch that.

Now WHAT IF CC has decided to put 96.1 and 101.7 together? Give WSRS a big boost in Boston OR blow WSRS up and go to talk as well.

...For the same reason Kiss 108 isn't going anywhere, WSRS isn't going anywhere.  Most listened to station in the Worcester market and the top biller.
