If 101.7 becomes Talk 1200 I will think Boston is the largest city in the country with the most boring radio station's this will make it's fourth talk station there's already 93.7, 96.9 and 98.5 I will think it's pathetic if Talk 1200 goes on 101.7 I hope it becomes either a Mainstream Urban, Urban AC, or Hot AC, I remembered an awesome Hip Hop station in Boston called Hot 97.7 which had a Mainstream Urban from winter 1999 the format lasted up until October of 2005 then it became a good R&B station WILD 97.7 then after that in August of 2006 it became a simulcast of WAAF 107.3 in Worcester making Boston the largest market in the country without any urban based radio station but I thought Jam'n 94.5 was a lot better back then. Jam'n was good up until 2009 then it started playing pop music I'm like that type of music should only be played on Kiss 108 or Mix 104.1 except if it's like Pitbull, LMFAO, or Flo-Rida which these artist are played on most Rhythmic stations. These days I think Jam'n 94.5 is a good Hip Hop station once again it was worse a couple years ago I got so sick of listening too Lady Gaga's Bad Romance over and over that I just started listening to out of market's Providence Hot 106 online which never plays songs like that even till this day most of the radio station's from Providence do come in where I live, Hot 106 just has a weak class A 1150 Watts that I get interference with 106.3 Frank FM in Nashua. Jam'n did get better last year but from 2009 to 2010 I thought Jam'n was a boring Hip Hop station before 2009 I thought it was an great Hip Hop station. The Concert's are still fun though. Jam'n 94.5 and Kiss 108 are the other FM station's owned by Clear Channel so I don't know if 101.7 would be a Mainstream Urban or the other formats I just said on top and that's Clear Channel's decision what the new format will be on July 23 not yours so don't say it won't be an urban because it might be one of the format's that I said on top. I would rather the station being any music format than Talk 1200.

93.7 and 98.5 are sports talk, 96.9 is politics and lifestyle talk and 101.7 could be the same--not the same thing as sports.. The first two are cash cows. 96.9 may be doing ok for Greater for all these yrs (since 99) and who knows, they could get Howie and CC would be attempting to make some money with a simulcast or move of 1200...as said before an urban 101.7 might be CC cannibalizing its own audience. Maybe Greater could take 96.9 and make it urban if they think it would do  better.

Boring to some may mean money-making to others, or else these big companies would have made one of their FMs into that urban format years ago...and who knows, they still may. Add to these stations the NPR/public radio news and talk of WBUR and WGBH--and those stations run what they run for a reason, too. As much as jazz fans will mourn the cuts 'GBH is making, they--despite the label of "non-commercial"--forsee a cash cow, in donations (corporate, private. etc) Maybe CC will try Urban if as you say Jam'n strayed from its original sound to play "pop music" in which case it maybe wouldn't take away from the 94.5 audience they have. It comes down to CC maximizing what they paid for 101.7--a huge amount, and they'd want to make it pay off for them. So far no word on format has leaked out; we may finally find out in just over a month

I STILL can't help but wonder if Clear Channel is going to put the Jammin' format on 101.7 (good urban signal) and use the powerful 94.5 as their FM talk outlet.

Seems music is being de-emphasized in many cases these days and talk/sports/news is the real moneymaker and is less subject to impact from streaming music services (which are often more attuned to their target audiences than terrestrial music radio these days).

Yes, but:

1) If I am not mistaken, Jammin' billing is not as big as their numbers might suggest.

2) News/talk/sports often outbills music stations with the same ratings

3) Much of present core audience would be in 101.7 coverage area

They have enough talk station's on strong Class B station's they have 93.7, 96.9, and 98.5. Jam'n is staying right where it is to be honest with you Jam'n 94.5 is one of the top 5 radio station's and my favorite in Boston Jam'n is Rhythmic CHR not urban and I don't listen to Talk radio at all and I really only listen to music on the radio and If Jam'n went on 101.7 then I can't here it in New Hampshire. You could listen to Talk 1200 over the Worldwide web or on the WXKS HD2 signal. I would just rather the 101.7 signal to be anything rather than Jam'n 94.5, Kiss 108, Talk 1200 or Classic Hits because Boston already has two Classic Hits stations. If 101.7 could be any format I would like it to be a format such as Urban AC, Mainstream Urban, Smooth Jazz, Hot AC which would compete with strong signal Mix 104.1, Country which would compete with strong signal Country 102.5 or just any type of music format except for Rhythmic CHR, or Top 40.
