RIP Donna Summer

TMZ is reporting the very well-known music star Donna Summer has died of cancer. She was 63. Sad news.

This is really sad news. God bless her and condolences to her family and friends. You were truely loved Donna rest in sweet peace!

sad news :-(  wcbsfm started out with Ron Parker, now BBlee and tonight Joe Causi, I hear also tomorrow morning with DT tributes to her, her music, memories etc,  I never met her but loved her music, had it all, cassettes and Cd's and on computer too. Donna was a real Disco Queen now in Disco RR Heaven!!! I am shocked when today, Ron Parker said she passed away. He did a great job today, I was running around but I had my mp3radio player with me. She will be missed. RIP Donna, glad your out of pain!!!  Thanks to all at wcbsfm for the lovely tributes. I know many of them prob met her as they are Great DJ's and BBlee and Joe were the Disco Guys.

As we remember Donna Summer (LaDonna Gaines), we need to remember her strong contribution to not only Disco, but also dance music as Disco evolved.

Donna Summer really gave dance music it's "face".

Think about it.  Back in 1975, disco WAS rising but for the most part it was still an underground sound.  There WAS a disco station then (WPIX - Disco 102) that played the format but they didn't stick with it for very long.  Out comes this woman who really captures everyone with "Love To Love You Baby", a track that was VERY risque for 1975 yet somehow made it on the radio.

However, it was "I Feel Love" that really catapulted her into the music scene and soon after disco became part of the mainstream as disco stations (such as WKTU) sprouted up and did well.  More disco tunes came through and artists that were traditionally rockers got into the scene (Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, Queen) as well as balladiers (Bee Gees).

Her influence is the reason that dance music exists.
