AMP has been having a great run in LA for a while now. Still a step child to KISS FM (Seacrest) in LA, but doing better than they were in the LIVE format with Carolla.

A station that is top 5 18-49 and third or fourth in 18-34 in the world's highest billing radio market is not a "stepchild" to any other station. There are nearly 90 stations licensed to the LA metro, and they beat about 85 of them.

My point is that as wonderful as AMP has done in LA, they have not surpassed KISS, but still at the top of the game.  Hence, the same model in DFW could occur with similar results.  If AMP can be runner up in the younger demos with KISS DALLAS (as they have in LA) then flipping KRLD FM to AMP should be in very good order.  We're saying the same thing, you just didn't like my use of the term stepchild.  Let's say younger brother instead.

Your comments on Stern are arguable, bc he did not compete in a PPM world.  However, if Male >40 talk is not a winning methodology, then how do you explain KTCK.  It's my understanding that they dominate M25-54 throughout all day parts, with one of the weakest signals in the market, and AM to boot. Also, KTCK scored high in the diary world, but has not only maintained those ratings in a PPM universe, but increased.  You sound  well versed on the subject, please correct me if I am misinformed.

Most CBS new CHR's are Rhythmic leaning. If this does happen I can see I93 moving into a more Adult CHR direction. Im wondering how their ratings are now?

How about this: Move The Fan to the weaker signal 107.5 if you want to keep The Cowboys on FM, and put Amp on the stronger 105.3 signal to go head to head with Kiss. i93 would be the odd man out and eventually would bow out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can move "The Fan"/KRLD-FM anywhere you want but if the Cowboys are on an FM station, they will NEVER be on anything less than a 100,000 watt signal as long as JJ is running the show at Val-leeeeey Ranch.

Another observation, is listening to KISS FM in LA and AMP in LA.  AMP sounds a bit more like KISS DFW, and KISS LA is programmed much more hip hop.  People are people, Dallas wants so badly to be LA.  I would venture to guess that if AMP comes to town, CC will adjust KISS FM Dallas to sound more like KISS LA (or visa versa). Re-developing their own format here that succeeds on the W coast.  Point being, rhe top 40 game in DFW will be played between AMP and KISS, I93 will be a place to go on commercial jumps, and yes. There is plenty of room for all 3.  My guess is MIX(NOW) will ease back to gold after AMP gets a firm grip on the local market.  CBS's LA version of AMP sounds wonderful.

It is pure silliness to think that Clear Channel will make any sudden changes to Kiss to make it sound more like KIIS. They aren't going to risk killing the golden goose just to make it align better with another station in a very different market. Come on. Think it through.

I'm obviously a poor writer, bc that's not what I'm trying to say.  I'm saying that if AMP rolls out, they start pulling from KISS, the obvious choice would be to take the same approach KISS (clear chan) has done in LA under the same circumstances.  I am not saying day 1, that KISS goes more rap/hip hop, but possibly year 2, if the conditions mirror what the two radio groups navigated in LA, then YES, it would be safe to assume that CC/KISS would make the offensive/defensive programming moves they made in LA to retain the #1 title.  Why is that silly to digest?

Nearly all men (and even quite a few women) like sports. Only a minority of people like Stern. The "appeal universe" of Stern and sports is vastly different.

The reason why Stern did well in the diary was long TSL despite a cume that barely got to 10th in the daypart. In the PPM, the appeal of niche formats or shows generally does not increase much, while the TSL is decimated. Thus, it is logical to think that Stern might have fallen out of the top 10 in NY and Miami in the PPM, were he on in this new measurement world.

KTCK puts a 5 mV/m over 6.443 million of the 6.508 million residents of the metro. Add in the reinforcement of the KTDK (FM) and you don't have that bad a facility... for as long as there is some traffic on AM in the market. While The Ticket gets a lower cume than many in the male demo, the listening levels are high because of the basic broad appeal of sports.

David, do you have any idea what are the revenues like for KRLD-FM and KMVK?

One would hypothesis from previous demo posts last year and assuming the overrall numbers then and now mirror those trends that KMVK does better than KRLD-FM.  However, KRLD-FM does probably have twice the spot load to sell, so they could make up some ground.
