Charleston Radio Personalites of the past
« on: May 30, 2012, 03:20:40 AM »

Who's your favorite radio personalities from Charleston, SC in the past. Since I'm not from the Lowcountry, I would say:

From WTMA: Booby Nash, Bob Riley, Bill Sharpe (now at WCSC 5), and the late greats John Trenton and Keith Nichols.

From WCSC Radio (now WSPO): Mike Hiott (later went to enjoy his career on WCSC 5 and WCIV 4 before retiring near Walterboro).

Who's your faves?

The one that comes to mind for me is JJ Scott from the early to mid 70's. I worked with him as an intern at WRJZ in Knoxville when it was top40/rock from '76 to '80. He moved on to PD in Houston and returned to Knoxville for a short while and then on to Chicago. Sadly he passed away about 12 years ago.

Second the nomination for JJ Scott (Bill Towery).  I, too, worked with him at WRJZ in 1979-1980.  He was a great air talent, an even greater production director, and a terrific man.  I'm honored to have known him

I have an aircheck and production sample of JJ from the summer of '78, good stuff. Does anyone have one from his WTMA days?

I was lucky enough to work with JJ Scott for a short but great 6 weeks in south Florida at WGMA radio in Hollywood, FL back around 1973-74 when he came down to fill in for the then GM Casey Jones who was forced out sick.  I was a teenager at the time and he took the time out of his busy day to show me a lot of on air radio things that I didn't know.  Bill was a good man.
