WOW!!! Not much love for WAKY on this board. First of all for Radioville. Not my call, discussions continue on that issue. It's not really that important an issue to me because I don't really think most listeners care. This is not a perfict world and not everybodys watch is set at exactly the same time. For Storrs19. We are not trying to fool anybody. With WAKY what you hear is what you get. We are locally owned and locally programed and as an independent station we don't have the resources that the big companies have. We voice track because we want our talent to have a life. I happen to know that WAKY is not the only radio station in Louisville that voice tracks. And I know that WAKY uses all local talent and we bust ass on the air every time we crack that mic. So laugh it up funny boy! It's easy to tear something down but it's hard to build something. I choose to build. Ok, bobOnTheJob, I grew up with the WAKY of 45 years ago and that was the best station I have ever heard and I've worked 2 major markets and plenty of medium and small ones. I have lstened to airchecks of all the great jocks and some of the not so great jocks. And you're right about the choices being limited at that time. Johnny Randolph went to great lengths to find and hire the best talent he could afford. We do that today at WAKY. Radio ain't no hardware store. We have to sell this invisable thing we call "Air-Time" to make money and it is a challange. Maybe there are some things about the Radio Business that you can't see. I gotta go...I've got production to do because our sales team has been busy. We are building a radio station here and we're too busy to waste time tearing something down. Thanks for the feedback.  WAKY is my favorite station.  I just don't agree with giving the wrong time check because I thought I was running late to my lunch date!

Fair enough BobOnTheJob. I won't go into detail on the decision making process but I can say that the decision on voice tracking has more to do with the budget than anything else. The wisdom of not having part timers on the air has another aspect. We want our best talent on the air at all times. And, yes, 79-WAKY Superstars did a weekend shift too. And they had great part timers. Steven Lee Cook, "The Weekend Warrior" is a great example of that. While I like your "Killer App" comment, I'm a "more music" guy. The music is the real Star. We are here to enhance the listening experience. We put listeners on the air on occasion but our focus is music, local information and entertainment. When somebody asks me how I work all those hours I tell them that I record my weekend show. And I have never had a listener take me to task over the voice tracking issue you raise. And I get that question a lot. They understand that a guy needs some time off! This issue is an example of what I call "Radio Guy Stuff." Things that someone in the Biz might think are important may not mean anything to "Joe 6-Pack." We try to understand our target listener and communicate with them on their terms. We try to "Live in the listeners world." Making a station sound live is a non issue with me. It's far more important to make your station sound fun and engaging. Worm your way into their heads and you have created that "bond" and the "MAGIC of RADIO" you speak of. The issue of giving the exact time is "Radio Guy Stuff" in my mind too. As you stated, people have exact time on their phones, I-Pads, wrist watches and on their radio display. They also get time and temp at every bank they pass on their commute. I have never had a listener bring up this issue in my entire career. Having said that, we do our best to give accurate information on everything we talk about on the air. Our system has a timing feature and for the most part it works well but sometimes it fails us or maybe we just have a brain lapse and give the wrong time. I know it happens, I have heard it too and when it does it's just a few minutes off. And if that paints the WAKY Jocks in an unfavorable light with "Radio Guys" I don't really much care. You can't please "Radio Guys" because their way is always right. Peace and Love brothers and sisters, and remember, RADIO is NOT dead. Les Cook

I thinks that is the best post I have ever seen here Les. Too many people outside looking in where "everything" is so obvious those of us still in the business must be morons for missing. You work with what you have AND can afford.
