630 doesn't have any local programming AT ALL, but I end up listening to their satellite news every morning because I absolutely cannot stand AM Savannah on 1290. The station is otherwise run pretty well against the competition all day long, but that show is so taxing to listen to and the content is incredibly weak. I can't be the only person wishing there was something better for morning drive.

Consider yourself lucky: Savannah was like market #130 or so without Hilton Head...now that I think the markets are "re-combined", it will probably be similar to TV market size...about market 90-100.

Fact is, with or without HHI/Lowcountry ratings, Savannah's market is considered by the big-wigs as a small market and with two major radio companies cutting overhead to the bone...we should thank our stars for what the area still has radio-wise despite all but a handful of stations being major clusters.

I'd imagine a decently-programmed talker on a full-market FM with at least AM drive live and local could live a long and fairly healthy life. But that's been tried here before as well in the 90's. Savannah's not really a N/T market...now whether that's because there's no good content on the stations or if the stations put inferior content on because they don't want the overhead is beyond me.

1290's biggest problem with it's morning show, IMO, is that they are trying to do the wrong show for the time slot it is aired. There is no time to develop a thread in between news breaks and traffic briefs. The show would be better suited to, say, the 9:00-12:00 slot or as a nooner, but not in the morning drive slot. As to you question, upstate29651, I believe 92.3 did do talk for a short time, but as far as I remember, it was all syndicated. Someone refresh my memoory please?.
