Would u listen to dave kruz on ktlk or peter tilden on kabc???
« on: June 03, 2012, 09:21:01 PM »

First off dave kruz is the most boring talk show host i have ever heard on radio!!! Well close to it!!!And the fact ktlk got rid of the wsj wrap and replace it with dave kruz was a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeee mistake!!!

WTF were they thinking i thought bain channel usually knows what they are doing and on top of that why on earth does robin allow him to have a shift on kfi on sundays??? He belongs on npr not commercial radio even in the 250th biggest market.

Now mr tilden i dont care for his show he bounces from topic to topic??? I dont want that i want someone to stick to one topic for awhile!!! With that said i loved mr kabc format but he is an unusual case. But between the two i would have to pick mr tilden, he is at least a bit entertaining but he would be better at a music format not talk not his niche!!!

Thoughts???

I'll listen to Peter any day , he's a fine host.  Cruz is not interesting to me , but then that goes for most of KTLK's programming .

No one knows it's there just like Angels games on KLAA.

Actually, Angels games/talk on KLAA is some of AM 830's most compelling content. Roger Lodge has an active morning show, and if nothing else, his BASEBALL REPORT each weekday at 7:45 AM is a must listen, where he interviews prominent scribes who cover MLB. I think the Angels have had better radio announcers in the past (Dick Enberg, Don Drysdale, Bob Starr, Darren Sutton, etc.), however IMO overall coverage of, and conversation about, Angels baseball is some of the best content available on LARadio.

Haven't heard the Angels radio broadcasts of late, but the TV duo is TERRIBLE. Rojas and Gubicza have simply not improved from their rough start a few years ago and the two really jumped the shark earlier this season by calling a no-hitter by Jared Weaver and not informing the audience of it at all during the broadcast. Why? They didn't want to jinx the no-hitter. Honestly, can we get some broadcasters here that are not still in the third grade? We are in LA, not Topeka. Never mind the fact that they are supposed to be reporters reporting on the game and are not among the actual game participants, how many casual viewers did they lose who may have tuned in for a few minutes and tuned out before having to deduce on their own that a no-hitter was in progress? We're talking complete lack of professionalism here. And Manny Mota's son has no place in the broadcast booth either. His monotone, bookish delivery is a total downer when your trying to get excited for the game. When he explains something, it almost sounds as if he's talking down to the viewer. We could use an insightful color analyst, not a professor who will be quizzing us later.

Please bring back Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler, so I can tune in to Angel broadcasts again. You really know your broadcasting presentation is not up to snuff when people view Rex Hudler, the broadcaster's skills superior to yours - and they do.

A good Angel radio announcer you left off your list was Al Conin, who to my ear had a very similar voice and style as Bob Starr.

Your points are well taken, Channel Flipper.  Though any fan interested enough might stick around long enough to see the line score displayed at the end of each half inning.  (I understand the Mets' radio announcer mentioned Johan Santana's impending no-hitter last week) On the Angels Fan Forum Message Boards, the Jose Mota problem has been dissected ad infinitum for over 6 years now.  As for The Wonder Dog and Phizz, they are both employed now with the KC Royals (!!) TV crew so no chance they'll be back in SoCal unless the Royals are in town to play the Angels (or the Dodgers in an interleague game)... Steve and Rex did open the season in Anaheim when the Halos hosted the Royals.

Glad to hear Physioc and the Hud man got another paying gig, even if they had to go Baseball Siberia to get it.

To expand on my other point for a minute - This is LA. Home of legendary team broadcasters such as Vin Scully, Chick Hearn, Bob Miller, Dick Emberg, Bob Kelley (a long time ago) and many other very good ones. If fortune and/or hard work has blessed you as a broadcaster with an opportunity to broadcast full time in this town, you have to know the job demands your very best - you have to step your game up.

The Angel guys could have turned a rare landmark early season game into a broadcasting memory and created a highlight to last for ages, a la Scully's call of Sandy Koufax's no hitter in '65 when he announced the exact time and date the final pitch was going down, that still gets played to this day. I don't expect Rojas and Gubicza to be Vin or anything close to Vin, but they do need to fulfill their basic broadcasting responsibility - tell the viewer what is going on. If they do a good enough job of that, then maybe something great will happen to make that elusive memorable broadcast moment along the way. Instead, they wanted to be cute, play their little "game within the game", and anger and insult a lot of viewers in the process. Congratulations fellas, you have now joined Vic the Brick in the Southern California sports broadcasters clown Hall of Shame. Hope it was worth it.
