I've enjoyed All News 106.7 so far, but one thing I heard made me laugh.  On their business report, Crystal Edmonson from the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that a new restaurant has leased space at 1180 Peachtree Street.  She said the space was formerly occupied by the restaurant "Trois."  She pronounced it "Troy."
Reminds me of a few years ago when I saw a new weather girl on ch. 46. She said, "There is a big strong gust of rain coming our way from Elijah," while her finger was pointing at Ellijay. Cheesy Cheesy

She didn't last long.

Maria Boynton is sounding very smooth and has a great voice for overnights.

All it says about SB leading with the shooting at the funeral is that they still monitor the police scanners.  Doesn't say a thing about their trying to cram as many leads into a 2:00 cast.  They've been bush for several years and aren't likely to change much so quickly.  Don't hand the trophy to them yet.  It has only been 10 days for All News 1067, for gosh sakes!  Let's give them a chance.  Remember, there are primaries coming up next month.  Let's see how the Mighty 750 stacks up then.

You won't hear any disagreements from me on this.  While WYAY has a great quality, the content is not as good.

I think the news folks on CBS 46 look more attractive and the graphics are much cleaner than FOX or WSB but FOX and WSB are still number one because of the content and the legacy they hold.

WYAY has a lifespan of 2 years.... That is what I estimate.

Don't underestimate this? Wait until a Hurricane hits Atlanta or any other disaster hits Georgia then we will find out if WYAY meets the All-News standards that KCBS in San Francisco and WCBS in NYC, or WTOP in Washington DC, or WBBM has had over decades. I know WYAY uses the 1-hour model like all these other stations are mentioned above.

It's been not even two weeks.  Give them time to put some feet on the streets.

WSB can sit back and borrow copy from the paper or the TV side without even changing a word.  They do this routinely and sound like they are breaking news.   How many dedicated field reporters to they have?  The only one I am sure about is Spanky Sangster and I am never sure if he's on scene or just phoning it in from the parking lot downstairs.

WGST used to actually send somebody to stories and they had beat reporters at the gold dome among other places.  It worked.  Yes it costs money.  That's why you have ads to play, son.   No, finding stories off the wire or Google news is not the same thing.  Not to me anyway.

WYAY is going to have to learn they cannot depend forever on Fox 5 for stories and cannot just borrow TV reporters and sound bites.  Fox 5 especially is not what I would call a breaking news specialist.  But WYAY are new at this.  They have room to grow.  It seems like they are adding a new person every couple days.  Ex-CNN Chuck Roberts was on yesterday.

                                "Feets don't let me down!"

While management is busy trying to put more news feet on the ground, it also needs to be putting more sales and marketing feet on the ground too. It's not simply a matter of "broadcast it and they will come" anymore. In a couple of months, a listener shouldn't be treated to any more or extremely few "psa's". One can live off Joseph A. Bank and a few other sponsors for just so long.

106.7 must simultaneously SELL its brand and do it a lot of different ways. Not just air time but with billboards, newspapers, community papers, on line, off line. And not just in town, either. They need to travel up and down I-85-North and sell the brand aggressively.

Because of its ideal transmitter placement, 106.7 has a mighty fine signal well into Anderson County, S. C. They need to canvass and build up close relationships at every gas and convenience station up and down this precious interstate "asset" with promotions, contests, brochures, giveaways, logos on coffee cups, etc.

If an all news format hopes to make it today, it must think way outside the usual box. Forget about how news stations did their thing in the 70's, 80's and into the early 90's. It's a brand new far more challenging broadcast world. If they don't get the total "mix" right and quickly, don't expect to see them around in a year or so.
