Cumulus is now the exclusive syndicator and sales partner for CBS' all new sports network that will feature original programming 24/7 when launched January 2013. 8 station already named to have the programming 24/7 and another 26 including the Fan will carry some programming including updates.

So what does this mean to Atlanta?  Well since CBS Sports Radio produces they may have right of first refusal in each marketplace so they could solve their Dave problem with sports programming but they would still compete with the Fan and the Zone and this town isn't big enough for 3 sports stations. Also since Cumulus is the sales partner they are really just diluting their share in this market even if the Fan is technically owned by the Dickey Brothers don't think they know moving the Fan to 100.5 is a viable option on the table.

Perhaps a deal can be cut in the Atlanta market. Move the Fan to 100.5 which matches well with the Braves broadcast. Move 106.7 to a simulcast on 680. Then broker a deal for CBS to sign TRG for morning and re-format Dave as Rock 92.9. Of course we can debate the viability of the rock format in any market.

No strategic reason except so would almost anything else they put on there if the they move the Fan to 100.5. Other option is to just simulcast the Fan on both signals

The Zone could also gain from this by becoming an ESPN Sports Radio affiliate which is heavy on natioanl broadcasts of major sporting events. Don't see ESPN allowing a station to be an affiliate of both because this CBS represents a legitimate threat verse a Fox Sports or Yahoo Sports with the talent on the CBS stations.

I was thinking about Dave being the most logical choice to flip to the sports format. Being that 92.9 has a much better signal than 100.5, my bet is that 92.9 goes to sports.

EDIT: just read the press release. Looks like it will actually go to WCNN instead. Perhaps, Cumulus could simulcast this on 100.5.

No big deal when 680 becomes a CBS Sports affiliate and drops ESPN. Dickey already has stations that exclusively air ESPN Radio and FOX Sports --- ESPN 1230 The Fan 2 and 1340 The Fan 3 (FOX Sports Radio).

I know that 1230 and 1340 could return to simlucasting because they cover different areas.  I know that 1230 and 1340 are owned by dickey so maybe the current arrangement for those two stay in place and ESPN keeps a home with 1230. I wonder if ESPN might go to 590 and Radio Disney gets the ax. I am confident that ESPN will not be on 680 or 92.9 based on the press release. Will 680 stay as is replacing ESPN with CBS SportsRadio or will 680 go CBS sports radio full time and the FAN moves to FM. Several AM/FM sports simlucast stations will end its simlucast with the AM going CBS full time and FM will stay mostly local. This ought to be interesting.

I think the only reason Radio Disney is on WDWD 590 is for the Mouse to be able to say they are on the air in market #9 for their national ad sales.  My daughter doesn't listen anymore so they lost probably half their listenership.

This is an opportunity for 790 to pick up ESPN (790 carrying ESPN is probably more attractive for the Mouse than having to dump Radio Disney to keep ESPN's place in ATL), since I agree that WFOM (1230) will likely drop it for the reasons you mention.  I don't know of anyone who listens to either WFOM or WIFN (1340), except during football season for PBP for teams other than Tech and Georgia.

I still think that Dickey is likely to dump WIFN so Cumulus can pick up the two LFM stations at some point.  But would Cumulus then put or keep ESPN on 790?  I doubt it.
