I don't listen to a lot of college radio that isn't WBRU, but you're right that I've noticed it other places. I guess I'm just surprised that EVERY jock would have the same exact talking style.
I love 'BRU, it's a real gem of New England radio.
'BRU has always been a unique sounding station. I've been listening to them on and off now for the better part of 40 years. They go through cycles. Back in the 70's, they would play classic "moldy oldies" on Saturday nights and Old Time Radio on Sunday nights. During the "normal hours" (whatever
that may have been), they would be "Progressive" (now known as Alt. rock). They have always sounded good (even today). The nice thing about 'BRU, the announcers are "real" (natural sounding), local and live. Of course they do their "360 Free Form" (hip-hop based programming) on Sundays and overnights. I hope they never change.
