May PPM Ratings are out
« on: June 11, 2012, 06:36:53 PM »

Not much has changed compared to the previous month's ratings. As always, 4 out of the 5 top stations here are Urban/Urban AC oriented. The only glaring difference that stands out is the precipitous fall of WSB AM from a 7.3 share in April to a 6.7 share. Coincidently, 106.7 News has their shares boosted up a bit. It'll be interesting how much potential 106.7 has within the next several months and if the descent of WSB AM continues.

I'm don't know how many days of NEWS are included in the WYAY ratings, but it looks to have
given them a boost.

Shocking how fast WSB News/Talk has fallen. Something they are not doing right there for
sure.

WSB's programming has, over the last few years, become extremely stale & boring. Almost every show is just like the one that preceded it. And no sports programming from March until September. They really need to go out and get the Braves or have some sort of sports programming during the summer, anyway. Too much of the same old talk programming every day and night. With big names retiring and others rumored to be leaving in the future, maybe it's time for WSB to come up with a new format, whatever it may be.

The ratings did not include any time with news for WYAY.  The ratings period ended on 5/23.  So, AGH was trending up.

This report ended the Thursday before All News 106.7 launched, so I'm not sure where WYAY's spike came from.

The stratification in this market is ridiculous. Urbans and WSB go straight to the top of the 6+ rankers, the three (or four, depending on definitions) contemporary pop fill in the next slots, and then it's a free-for-all afterwards. The country format, in particular, has seen much better days in Atlanta. Surely the combined triple threat of Star 94, Q100 and B98.5 is damaging The Bull and Kicks' prospects.

Another stellar book for Star - when's the last time they had an overall share that high? A decade ago? Regardless, they clinch the title of biggest non-urban music station for 2012's first half, and deservedly so considering the station's quality. B98.5, despite Star's dominance and what I consider some misguided formatic decisions, enjoyed some ratings improvement, and the ever-consistent Q100 continues to perform nicely.

The River has quietly spent 2012's first months on a nice uptick, but WABE has taken a nasty tumble. As always, Dave and Rock 100.5 bring up the rear.

Yes, AGH WAS trending up...and their cume was continuing to climb, too. Individual dayparts - including weekends - were also getting back to their 2011 highs, beating out other well known stations in town in key demos (including Mara Davis, who I often hear touted as a "great talent" on these boards). If Tripp West had gotten any help or promotion and been able to get his numbers up, who knows where the station might have been? I talked to someone there and they tell me it was more of a "hands being tied" situation over the last few months...That the staff knew the end was coming so morale was down, and music wasn't being refreshed, which left the dj's having to talk about the same songs/artists over and over. Yet, despite all that, it was still trending up. Perfect time to pull the plug!

With the launch of ALL NEWS 106.7, the new battle seems to be amongs the Urbans from CBS, Radio One and Cox.  Would Cumulus launch an Urban station to fight off V, KISS, HOT/MAJIC to shoot ALLNEWS to the top???

Let's just hope that Cumulus is in ALL NEWS 106.7 for the long hall.  The new all news station in Houston is just now up to a 1.0 share.  The Houston station keeps climbing, but slowly.  It is going to be a long road to become the place everybody turns to.

I've noticed that as I scan.......when 106.7 says something like
"the latest weather" or "traffic update" I sometimes stop. But it's
a blue moon for me to stop and listen to WSB News/Talk.
