TOUGH DECISION - WHAT EAS SYSTEM IS BEST FOR FM RADIO?
« on: June 13, 2012, 05:35:20 PM »

We currently use the TRILITHIC EASY EAS SYSTEM and have been very pleased with it.  When we secured it back in 2003, we felt it was well ahead of some of the other systems as it saved our logs automatically on the system, downloaded updates from the internet with ease, had receivers built in, offered great 1 on 1 live phone support and was reasonably priced.

Now there are more competitors than ever before. Someone I recently spoke to stated that it was his opinion that the Digital Alert System EAS is now superior to Trilithic.

Would like your thoughts on this.  Which EAS stands above the rest?  Trilithis, DAS, Sage, Gorman-Redlich, TFT,  Huh

We have to make a purchase quickly and appreciate your recommendation.  josh

I like both Sage and DAS. The sage box is fairly bullet proof similar to there old one, it lacks the fancy online interface of the DAS. The DAS box is easy to configure and has a great web interface, but it can only be programed from that or a keyboard, monitor and mouse plugged in to it. Its just a small redhat computer running software .The front only has one button to send the weakly test, the DAS also has the option of integrated radios.

Have you talked tp Trilithic about any possible CAP upgrade to their existing box?   Another option would be a CAP converter for your existing unit, if you still like it.  You can save some money doing that as well, at least in the short term.

If your Trilithic box has the NIC, all you need is their CAP software and a computer to run it on. If it does not, the upgrade is outrageously expensive. In fact, it is more than the cost of a new unit. However, if you buy a new unit that is CAP compliant, at least for us, it ran about what Gorman-Redlich is listing their CAP converter.

Just installed 2 DASDEC units at a 6 station cluster.  They were a breeze to set up compared to the Sage digital boxes I have installed - about to install another DASDEC unit for one of my contract clients.  I couldn't see adding a CAP converter to 15-20 year old EAS boxes - no more thermal paper, messy ribbons or jammed printers!

Greetings, RFB! Apparently we are in the minority on the DASDEC selection, perhaps most have gotten acquainted with the other units and cannot believe there is an alternative. Whatever, I had a one  for years...it worked,  but, IMHO
the DASDEC is a step above...Just my opinion...JBI
