WAUN drops smooth AC, back to smooth jazz
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:04:49 PM »

WAUN Green Bay/Sturgeon Bay has switched back to BA's Smooth Jazz feed.  I thought something was up when I picked up the station in northern Michigan this past weekend and heard more instrumental than vocal music.  The playlist matches the listing on 102.5 WLOQ Orlando's website.

Does the Smooth AC network have ANY affiliates anymore?

For a laugh, check out the Smooth AC network website... they're still touting the success of a station that no longer exists (WLFM).

WXJZ Gainesville, FL

Also, WNWV in Cleveland carries the programming but only part time. Wish WXJZ would go back to smooth jazz without BA.

KIFM is still listed as a station that carries the Smooth AC programming, but to me the playlist looks different from what BA plays.

KIFM sounds like KyXy 96.5 on a bad day. Horrible.

Ah... almost forgot about WXJZ and about 107-3 The Wave airing it at night.  Isn't WXJZ only part-time as well, though?  The air staff section of their website seems to list mostly local jocks, at least during the week (except for Bob and Sheri).

Agreed, KIFM is awful.  I wouldn't even call that smooth AC anymore.  I'd call it a mainstream AC that just happens to play a few smooth AC vocals.

Well, KIFM is right up there with KYXY in the ratings (www.radio-info.com/markets/san-diego) so that's where they want to be - even if it means going Pure AC with a few Smooth AC vocals sprinkled in.

I agree, @Jazz_Kat - WXJZ should go back to Smooth jazz without the BA feed. Their old SJ playlist was excellent!

And I think KIFM is just listed on the Smooth AC network page as an affiliate because Maria Lopez is on air for the nights (voice tracked - I'm pretty sure). She's also on the air for the overnights on 107.3 The Wave/WNWV. Both of these stations keep their normal playlists going though these times.

Looking at KIFM's playlist again, I will say it's what I wish our so-called Soft AC in the Detroit area sounded like.  No Katy Perry, Gaga or Pink.  Still, remembering what a great SJ station KIFM used to be... makes it a little sad.  Embarrassed

That's true Chris, I'd take that KIFM playlist over most other AC's around. If I wanted to listen to an AC station, this is one that I'd like to hear.

If I'm taking a break from listening to something, I listen to KIFM or WRVR in Memphis. Hated to see what KIFM has become too, but I like their playlist for the type of music they are playing now.

I agree Jazz_Kat, what makes it so sad is KIFM's SJ playlist really was one of the best. What a shame, perhaps it can be restored one day.
