Here's my tip to his producers: Focus Arsenio to be the URBAN alternative to a talk show. For a while in the 90's during his run, his show started becoming unfocused to what his objective was to the game, being that urban voice in the late night game. Bring that back.

An inconsistent time slot might be also an issue although he also had this during his original show. Many stations like WDAF (Local TV's Fox station in KAnsas CIty) also a 1/2 (or an hour) of news at 10 Central time then a sitcom block. He tried to be more "urban" when he faced Letterman and Leno by bringing on people like Louis Farrakhan and failed.

Besides, we already went through an urban late night talk show phase, not just when the aforementioned "Magic Hour" (thanks, @NoMadCow  Roll Eyes ) was on the air. Anyone remember one summer when Keenen Ivory Wayans launched a late night show and, almost as if on cue, another urban late night show named after Vibe magazine went on the air. Reminds me of how all of these game shows started being created out of the sky by networks in the wake of "Millionaire." And I believe both of them were even cancelled at the same period of time, which wouldn't surprise me.

Some of those Fox stations kept Arsenio when Chevy Chase appeared, but they pushed Arsenio after Chevy Chase and didn't move Arsenio back when Chevy Chase was cancelled

In Philadelphia, WTXF moved Arsenio to 11, and aired Chevy Chase at midnight. I believe at the time WTXF was owned by Paramount, although I'm led to believe that even if Fox owned the station at the time, it might not have cleared Chevy there at 11 right away either, instead choosing the syndicated show with a proven audience.

If recall correctly, Chase's show didn't last long at all, and his impact to Arsenio was probably nominal. Arsenio's show may have been troubled on its own.

Did 'Seinfeld' and 'The Simpsons' reruns hit syndication around that time? Stations might have preferred airing them instead of talk, already covered with CBS and NBC.

The show lasted one month and Chevy was a horrendous host.

How will this affect Conan? TBS should find a way to have Arsenio follow Conan

After Chevy Chase was cancelled, KSHB (then FOX, soon to be NBC) filled that slot with Star Trek: TNG reruns until they switched to NBC in Sept 94, Arsenio was kept at 11:30PM until it ended.

They would be on different channels. Only effect would be competition.

They may be going for a different demo as well. But either way, I personally can't wait for Arsenio to return next year.

Conan who??  Grin
