Phil Hendrie Show
« on: June 19, 2012, 01:54:35 AM »

Does this show get any numbers?

For the life of me I cannot understand how this show sustains. I have sampled it many times in the last few years and it's always Phil talking to himself---alternating between his regular voice and a voice that sounds almost exactly the same as his.

Does the show just constantly cycle through lots of people who have never heard him before and don't get the "joke"?

As boring and predictable as Limbaugh is, (and I can't believe I'm about to say this) he's definitely more listenable than Hendrie with that VERY tired and one-dimensional schtick.

Well said!  Hendrie can be funny and the show occasionally has it's moments but they're very few and far between.  I also wonder why anyone would subscribe to his website where they have to pay for podcasts, etc.

Anything he's done post-2006 hasn't been nearly as good as the five or six years before. I used to listen to the Saturday night show on KFI a year or so ago and enjoyed those, but I have been thoroughly unable to listen to the weeknight syndicated shows. Part of that is because of when they're on and part is because they haven't been as good.
From about 2001 to 2006, I listened to Hendrie regularly, whether online or via podcasts, and 90 percent of the time enjoyed the skits.

It is different, but I think it has gotten old over the years.  He was going to have a TV show, but that did not work out.  He, like Tammy Bruce and Dennis Miller, became "conservative"  (at least on Iraq War,) a number of years ago, whether the change of views was for real, who knows?

Using a fake voice to parody politics is not as effective as on TV.

It wasn't real.

A weedend talk host in SF Brian Copeland...also a comedian, etc. said that he would be told by syndicators  "If only you were a conservative"  - he was moderate to liberal...

he could have had a revalation, become a conservative and saw his career boom??

Herein lies the biggest problem facing talkradio today.

What problem? Syndicators don't want to hire formats that don't work? Most conservative shows aren't working these days either, but absolutely nothing on the other side is working. Are the syndication companies in business to be "fair" to your liking or are they in business to make money?

As for Phil Hendrie, he's one of those shows you either "get it" or you "don't get it". You obviously don't get it, which is why there are other shows on various media for you to choose from. He seems to be doing quite well, so good for him. I think he has a unique show that certainly doesn't fit into the cookie cutter talk radio format that everyone here seems to hate.

Phil's tied to a contract at TRN and that's why he is still on. The contract is up in a little over a year. I highly doubt it will be renewed. The show has not only declined in quality over the years (especially since he came back in 2007), but he has now waged war (yes, again) against his fans and also, TRN.  Roll Eyes

Of course you automatically assume I want a liberal show. Roll Eyes Unreal. All I want is a show with an interesting personality who isn't tied to either side (like most rational people) and gives a strong, passionate opinion about an issue.

To the contrary: I DO get it. I just think it's one-dimensional and after a very short time, VERY boring and predictable. Some people enjoy that---agreed---just like WWE wrestling. To me? totally UNinteresting.
