PLEASE HELP SAVE 98.7 AMP RADIO - WDZH FM DETROIT

98.7 AMP RADIO NEED TO STAY ON THE AIR BECAUSE CHANNEL 955 NEEDS COMPETITION
« on: June 20, 2012, 01:26:14 PM »

CBS RADIO need to keep 98.7 AMP RADIO  on the air because CHANNEL 955 at 95.5 FM here in DETROIT need to have a station competing against them here in metro DETROIT so that they won't have a free ride to get the top ratings spot here in DETROIT.

I had a nightmare last night that 98.7 AMP RADIO was gone and that 98.7 WDZH FM was simulcasting NEWSRADIO 950 WWJ AM.

Please stop bombarding us with how much you're obsessed with this station. We know you love it, but please ... is there something else we can talk about?

Also, is it really necessarily to spell out Detroit in all caps?

I do agree that having two CHR stations in Detroit is good, but please ... enough about 98.7. Thank you!

A.J., there's a reason he got banned from the Buzzboard.  I'm starting to wonder if he's a paid shill for 98.7.

Not to mention, his grammar needs work.  It should be "98.7 AMP Radio needs to stay on the air."

I will agree with him on one thing... it's great to have two CHRs in the market (two and a half if you count WDVD).  It makes things more interesting.  It's almost like WHYT vs. Z95.5 vs. 99.5 WDTX/WDFX from 1985 to 1989.

I do agree that it is nice for Detroit to have two CHR stations (three if you count WDVD as a CHR), but Human Numan, you are getting carried away with 98.7 AMP radio.  Personally, I've never really liked CHR anyway.  This battle between 98.7 and 95.5 is similar to WDRQ and Q95-5 in the late 90s-early 2000s.

Jason mentioned something about this battle being similar to 9-5-5 vs. DRQ back in the late-90s/early 2000's era. In more ways than one, you're right, it is very similar. But at the same time, it's not as intense as that battle was. When DRQ was around, both stations went at it consistently, especially when 9-5-5 was relaunched in 2002. NOW....it's just two Pop/CHR stations fighting to stay in the Top 10 12+ instead of doing things above and beyond to separate themselves from the rest.

You're looking at one CHR that has been through it all in the past 10-plus years versus another CHR that, in all fairness, despite it making strides in the three years its been on air, is rather inconsistent when it comes to its on-air staff. You got Mojo, Jag, Nick Craig, Kruz, Ace and Stick on one side going up against, virtually, Buck Head, who at this point is the only remaining original member since AMP's launched. Had Grooves stayed, had Big Boy stayed, if No Sleep gets a break, THEN we would have a legit battle. THEN we would have Mojo, Jag, Nick Craig and Kruz versus, maybe a line up of Buck and Coop, Grooves, No Sleep (assuming he's doing nights), and Kenny Valentino.

Until then, until AMP sorts itself out with all the turnover its on-air staff is going through, there is no legit battle, nor should there be a comparison between this battle and the battle with DRQ and 9-5-5. It may or may not get intense as the summer wages on, but only time will tell on that one.

As far as Human Numan is concerned...there are a million other topics that need to be discussed other than your obsession to AMP Radio. It's nice that you love the station (dedication like that can get a station a long way in terms of listeners), but save us the time and hassle and quit posting about it every other day.

I agree. 89x had never seen 18-35 numbers this great before Amp came around to swipe listeners from 95.5 and 96.3. Wink

PLEASE HELP SAVE 98.7 AMP RADIO - WDZH FM DETROIT

We would not have 98.7 AMP RADIO here in DETROIT had 93-1 DRQ made it to today
« Reply #7 on: June 23, 2012, 03:53:03 PM »

Had 93-1 DRQ or 93.1 WDRQ still been airing a Top 40 format in October of 2009 98.7 would have become another format other than Top 40 like rock music as 98.7 DETROIT WHEELZ.

98.7 AMP RADIO sounds way better than 93-1 DRQ did, and I'm glad 93.1 DRQ Top 40 format left so it gave CBS Radio a chance to launch their own top 40 station 4 years later here in DETROIT.

CBS RADIO is doing a better job with their Top 40 format here in DETROIT than ABC RADIO did with DETROIT's #1 HIT MUSIC STATION 93-1 DRQ now 93.1 DOUG FM.

Seriously? DRQ played music before 95-5, and most other CHRs across the nation, got to it. Amp beats everything into the ground at the same time or after 95-5 or WJLB beats it into the ground. DRQ and Amp are not even comparable. And I'm not sure that CBS would have launched a rock station, as they have been exiting rock formats for the past few years. I think had DRQ not went to Doug, 98.7 would be Jack FM, Fresh, or WWJ-FM.

Dude, what's with your obsession over Amp? I've listened to them a few times on my iPhone and I'm neutral towards them. Why don't you get a job with them or be a "groupie" at their remotes?
