Bob Buchmann To KGB
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:14:59 PM »

The legendary rock DJ, most recently at KLOS in L.A., joins incumbent morning host Coe Lewis on the 101.5 KGB morning show starting next week.

Based on his previous stints at KLOS, as well as WBAB on Long Island and WAXQ/Q104.3 in New York City (which like KGB is owned by Clear Channel), I wonder if Buchmann will eventually retain programming stripes to go with the gig.

Legendary these days means he can voice track 4 stations a day for under 30k a year LOL.

Legends are people like Shotgun Tom, Don Howard, Charlie and Herrigan, Gene Knight, Jack Vincent, Happy Hare, and Dave Rickards.

Maybe it's my "East Coast bias" that leads me to perceive the "legendary" status.  Tongue  But in aligning with a legendary radio station in KGB, I think it's a perfect match.

I think legendary applies.  Lots of years programming the top Rock station in NYC, the top Classic Rock station in Los Angeles and the top Rock station on Long Island, at the time Market #12.  When he ran WBAB, it was always in the top 5 on Long Island, beating all the NYC Rock stations that could be heard on Long Island.

With all of the amazing talent out of work right now in San Diego (i.e. Gene Knight, Jeff Stewart, etc). Glad to see they wont hire local talent instead go out of the market.

When it comes to KLOS, Bob Coburn, Geno Michellini, Joe Benson and Steve Downs are legendary.

@Gregg: I remember hearing that WBAB had beaten WXRK - yes, with Howard Stern - regularly in morning drive under Bob's watch. Now that is impressive.

Maybe in the Long Island book.  WBAB barely makes it to Queens and non-existent in the rest of the NY market.

Bob Buchmann a Legend, that is hysterical.  Tumbling from market number one, to market number two. to market number 17 ( with all due respect to San Diego), that is not a Legend, that is what has- been's do. As an on-air personality at KLOS, he had zero impact.  But the guy is ruthless.
If  I were the Program Director at KGB and his morning co- host Coe Lewis, I would be looking over my shoulder ever second.  This guy poses as an ass- kisser but is really a backstabber.  He back stabbed his former morning co-host at Q104 in New York, Leslie Gold, aka, Dig The Chick. Does anyone really think Buchmann, a legend in his own mind, is going to be content as a morning co-host and not the Program Director at KGB, think again!  It is amazing that in this economy and the new world of radio, that a has-been like Buchmann, could even get a job!!!
