Ann Curry Out At "Today"??
« on: June 20, 2012, 07:29:36 PM »

There are numerous reports this evening (June 20th) that Ann Curry wil be dumped from NBC's "Today Show", a little more than one year after she was promoted to co-hostess.

Perhaps the writing as on the wall when former co-hostess Mereduith Vieira and not Curry covered Quen Elizabeth II's 60th anniversary on the throne.

Is Vieira going to come back and reclaim her old job??

Ann Curry does a fine job, given what 'Today' has turned into.

Didn't Vieira (sp?) leave the show due to her husband's health? Did something change there (maybe not wanting to hear the answer)?

This would not surprise me in the least.

I wonder how many people are aware that Today's former weekend host Amy Robach is now working for ABC News?

Everyone is seeming to blame 'chemistry' for Curry's departure and that she never was comfortable in the job.

I think though, it's that Today is over-segmented and over-promotionalized. A newswoman like her must just shake her head at only having a half-hour at most per day for hard news before the shift to the murder/kidnapping/trial of the day only true crime fans care about, actors segment, "The Professionals" (just tell me the news, I don't need it in talking head form from the worst cable personalities of 2004!), and then concerts and cooking and the like.

As much as I'm not a fan of GMA (like most everyone except Laura Spencer, hate how they follow the leader with Today at times), at least you can count on their schedule and they know how to zig and zag. Today at this point is a four-hour shillfest for later in the day and the "Wake Up With Al" postgame show with how they're making Stephanie Abrahms as his eventual successor.

With the pairing of Regis and Kathie Lee on Wednesday, is there a chance that Hoda Kotb will move back to the "hard news"  division and Regis will join KLG permanently in the fourth hour.  It was mentioned he is covering NBC's July 4th fireworks special, so there seems to be a new association between the peacock network and Philbin.

Doubtful. Regis has stated on numerous occasions that after all those decades, and at age 80, he grew tired of the daily grind. I think his current gig of various guest spots and cameos is exactly what he wants and needs to both stay relevant and popular with his fans - and reduce his workload. If he pops up once or twice a month, he stays connected to his audience, and can enjoy a luxurious semi retirement that I am sure he is enjoying.

That's what I remember too, that she left for personal reasons related to her husband and didn't want to do the AM routine.

I think Ann Curry is being used a scapegoat to an extent and she is a news person on a show like GMA that isn't enough news. It maybe valid that NBC wanted someone with a more dynamic personality or voice, and Robin Roberts at GMA was working for GMA, but Ann might not have been for Today.

TMZ reported today that Meridith Viera turned down NBC's offer and that Savannah Guthrie might be next in line.

What about a triumphant return of Deborah Norville?
