GEN X flipping maybe?
« on: June 21, 2012, 03:49:04 AM »

From Radioinsight CC might be flipping it to Country like The Twister in OKC. Wont be the first GenX station to flip. 100.3 in St. Louis flipped to Classic Rock.

As did 104.9 in Seattle, 106.7 in Columbus and 97.3 in Albany, GA.  Lots of Gen X stations have flipped, and those are just the ones owned by Clear Channel!  Clear Channel will still have Gen X Radio in Louisville and New Orleans, and they have an internet-only national version of it.

Given that Gen X hasn't done significantly better than the "Classic Top-40" format on KOOL 106.1, it would make sense that Clear Channel would flip it.

Hasn't "Gen X" New Orleans gone more of a gold-playing Adult CHR than a 90s/early 2k variety channel I wouldn't be surprised, considering Gen X hasn't done all that well anywhere and CC has begun flipping them all.

Simply put, the Gen-X format and generation of "music" has no legs to stand on.  It is a format designed for a demographic more than a market desire to listen to it.

CC moves KMOD to 106.1
Moves classic hits to the new 97(.5) KAKC FM, bringing back some talent and fun from the old days.

I'm kidding, of course.  CC will do something lame, as usual.

Yes they have and they sound okay but 104.1 in New Orleans has had so many formats in less than 8 years. CHR, CHR Rhythmic, Urban Gospel and Rock.

I agree something needs to be done with Gen-X, but...  country?  A 3rd current country station in Tulsa?

Why not move "Chrome-FM" to 106.1 as a Classic Hits format, if it's doing well on 93.5?

(I still say there's an opening in Tulsa for a "Soft" or a "Lite" or an "EZ," but I don't know if such a format could be programmed to pull a young enough demo for advertisers...)

Actually, it would be a fourth country station in Tulsa, though one of them focuses on classic country.

Too hard to sell.  That was the reason for moving it off of 106.1.  It may get listeners, but it's a group advertisers don't want.  I can't see that format coming back.

I'd have to think Tulsa could support another AC.  However, I also have to agree with those who say AC is a format in crisis right now.  Today's AC sounds nothing like the "Soft Rock" from even a few years ago.  So, I think Tulsa could support another AC, but it would probably sound more like "K-Hits Lite" than the old KBEZ!

By the way, the Twister1061.com website now is redirecting everything to South 106's site while it originally just redirected the front page there.  If you looked at other individual pages, you'd see Gen X.  Now, you still see South 106.  I don't know if it's a case of them changing the redirect pages since they were found out, a change in plans, or an error in the beginning.

Bring back Kiss FM. Move the Beat back to Hip Hop. Flip to AAA or Urban A/C.

Country would be just a flanker to KVOO and KWEN.  Wouldn't do well in a market over saturated with 3 country stations.  106.1 is a damaged frequency.  Putting KISS-FM right under K-Hits could cause damage if they did a good job with the music.  Certainly would cause issues.   Kinda funny that Journal is trying to go after Cox and now Clearchannel is going after Journal.  Jon Phillips is a better GM than the GM at Journal.
