I'll add a spanking to your pounding:
Rush Radio on all of the Clear Channel and Cumulus Stations in the 50 mile radius of Empire and loudspeakers inside of Manhattan's Subways, louder in Tri-Beca and the upper East Side and Gracie Mansion.
A "spanking"

That sounds like something based on the North Korean model, or George Orwell's "1984", where political propaganda seems to be screaming at you everywhere you go.
The propaganda is endless, its pointless repetition is numbing and finally "the mind" turns it all off, totally ignores it and hears nothing.
Albert Einstein once said:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Einstein wasn't called a genius for nothing.

But you do have to wonder whether he would have preferred 101.9 to flip to Country or Alternative first? But, I suspect he would have really preferred a new format instead, all Science-talk, all the time.
