WBCN 1660 To Become CBS Sports Radio In 2013
« on: June 21, 2012, 04:29:00 PM »

In CBS announcing the launch of the new CBS Sports Radio today, a 24/7 sports talk network will debut on January 2 on eight CBS-owned stations, including WBCN, which is currently "America's Talk 1660." So it'll still be bird-fed, just sports laden.

They might as well try to get the WFNA calls back.  Some of the WFNZ programming will be going national with CBS Sports Radio, and presumably would be simulcast on 1660, so why try to maintain a separate identity as they attempted to do with the switch to WBCN.  Surely they have some other low-performing AM station where they could park those historic Boston call letters.

And don't forget 1350 - they might just flip to a new sports format any day now... you never know...

Could this move signal a jump to FM for the Fan? Maybe put a news/talk format on the stronger 610 signal?

@Matt: Actually, I speak of the Asheville station - which at one time was the sister station of what is now ESPN 730...
