Dallas also got a similar station yesterday. Univision flipped 107.9 to Bilingual Top 40 as Radio H2O

Hm. Well I can't say that he looks better than a 24 year old latina from Miami who is fit. I only call it as I see it. So then you were in LA David Eduardo? As we all know that Tanner jetted ASAP before the Arbitron consultant could even settle in at Power 96 to give the, err um "Analysis" as to why the station is doing so poorly.

Arbitron does not have consultants.  They have sales reps and trainers, and they do not "settle in" since they only stay an hour or two.  They certainly do not tell people how to program their radio stations.

Just an observation:  Nearly every time I tune into Power, I hear a song i don't really recognize.  (I should preference that Y100 is the station I listen to most.)  The songs are very urban/hip-hop/rap-ish.  Nearly every time I've tuned into DJ106.7, I hear either a song a recognize or something in Spanish.  So, yes, in terms of the "pop" audience, DJ106.7 will win hands-down

Keep in mind, if you are tired of corporate radio. You have the choice of listening to thousands of small market operators.

You're right. Times have changed, and power will need to also.

Power plays certain songs that are unique to the market. A million years ago Y100 and I95 did the same. You had one station play a unique record and the other station would jump on it. Two examples Shalamar "Make That Move" & "Planet Rock" (for those who remember) they were huge in Miami. It was a very small percentage of songs, but it gave the (station) a individual sound. I'm sure call out research helped also (back in the day).

Now most stations running the same tired playlist and the listener will accept this. This is what the public is used to. Power will need to reign in the playlist to jump on the the PPM bandwagon.

The days of the flexible playlist are over. PPM will not allow that. What will fly in Denver, will now work in Ft. Myers. (Sarcasm)

It was run up the chain to the regional programmer, and then approved by the hired consultant. Did I miss someone that wasn't on the memo"

The heritage that Power96 once enjoyed is dying, if not dead already.  They no longer do their summer concert.  They no longer break new music.  They can't say they are responsible for the "Miami sound" any longer.  They aren't in the streets.  They lack passion.  They aren't as aggressive as they should be or used to be.  In my opinion, they just aren't meeting the expectations of their core. People "like" Power96 but they don't "love" Power96.  The station is stale and stagnant and the ratings are proving it.  If done right, DJ106.7 could be a big problem for Power if Power doesn't figure shit out.

This is exactly why I hope Power will try to wake up and try to make this a horse race for ratings. They need to get off their establishment mantle and get back to performing.

Filling out the lineup on DJ106.7 are Lady Gigi; DJ Africa joined by Jasmina "Latina"; and K-Marie.

A press-release rehashing can be found here.

Is there any word on the ratings for DJ 106.7 or for the DJ Laz Morning Show?  I loved Laz on Power and expect him to "kill it" on the new station.

The June book, released 15 days ago, covered the 28 days ending 6/20. There will be no July book for another two weeks.

Stations will receive, tomorrow, the internal-use weekly for the 7 days ending 7/4. To answer your question, there is no data on Laz and very little on the station's new format...

Thanks David.  When Laz first went on the air he mentioned the show would also be carried in New York.  Have they announced when that will happen?  My guess is they would carry the Miami feed since its the same time zone.  I could see Laz becoming the Hispanic Ryan Secrest.  Very exciting times for Miami's top radio personality.
