After twirling the dial for fun this afternoon, I came across AMP's 1410 WSHY. Where I was expecting to hear the AM simulcast of Bob-FM, I was pleasantly surprised to find Fox Sports Radio in its place. From the sound of it, its typical satellite fare with Dan Patrick and Jim Rome in middays. So far, it sounds like the station was given clearance to run the programming and went with it immediately without waiting til the imaging package from Fox Sports came in. No on-air identity whatsoever with the exception of the same "This is WSHY Lafayette" that was running at the TOH during the Bob simulcast.
With a little elbow grease like imaging, self-promotion (as there seemingly hasn't been any for this long-dormant signal), cross-promotion on the other AMP stations, a local show, and advertising (I only heard PSAs running), they could actually make something out of this.

The would require AMP to hire someone to do this, my guess the engineer is the only V/O talent doing a station ID.

Such a shame so many companies don't give their AM signals any attention. Kudos to adding Fox Sports Radio, but it's pretty easy to add a few liners to promote your brand.

RO77, EXACTLY my point! From the sound of it, the station is still on auto pilot with no advertising in the local avails (just PSAs). At least add a liner that says "Fox Sports Radio 1410" or something to that effect. A little TLC and attention to detail can go a long way, and I know from experience.

Need to hire Bob On The Job to 'tweek it'... Low modulation, and I wonder if they are full power... 1450/ESPN is loud, clean, but to much on the Optimod or Omnia Bass for the spoken word AM... Thought my woffers were going to pop... Could be a good fight... The two best Sports Networks.. 1410 does some Purdue baseball, I heard during this recent spring season..

Is the WSHY legal ID running on top of FSR programming, without regard to the natural legal ID break? Inquiring minds want to know...don't we, Scott Fybush?

270 watts, non-directional at a good center point in the population of Tippacanoe County would serve better than a 1kw directional.... If they HD off one of their FM's, and get a FM-T, they can really make a mark.. Crawling now, but let's see what happens down the road with a little investment..

OMW...I wondered the same thing at first. It sounds like the legal ID that once ran at the top of the hour regardless of programming is the same ID that is currently running on FSR. However, they are actually running the ID within the Fox Sports Radio legal ID break. What's interesting is that since its only a few seconds long, they run two of them back-to-back to cover the entire network legal ID break.
As of a few days ago, the only thing that is localized on the station is the legal ID in question. "This is WSHY Lafayette" runs at every legal ID closure and station imaging closure. Also thus far, no local commercials from what I can tell. They're still covering local breaks with PSAs.

Good point, ST, sometimes going non-directional at lower power can provide more consistent coverage in key areas since the signal cancellation effects at the directional nulls no longer exist.
