A question for the engineers on here
« on: June 29, 2012, 09:34:19 PM »

So I just got an hd radio for my phone today. I noticed something that surprised me playing with it today, KPLZ has RDS. Well, that itself was not a surprise, what was was the song data. I thought that KPLZ just said the name of the program, such as Kent and Allan in the morning. So, why am I not able to tag songs off of them with my IPod? The only stations I can tag off of are the Clear Channel and CBS stations, although a lot of times CBS stations didn't work on the IPod. What is different about the RDS of KPLZ vs. these stations? I also noticed the other stations had RDS, but I assumed this was in the HD stream only, though I could be wrong. If it was in the analog as well, why couldn't I use it on the IPod?

tagging is an app that each station must add to its signal...  and i dont think its a free app.  Not all stations have installed tagging.

what HD radio did you get for your phone, specifically?

I believe it's called the HD Navigator and they sell it at Radio Shack for between $5 and $10. It's a nice tuner, although I'm a little worried about how it will do on the road with stations not in hd. I guess I'll find out on Wednesday. However, I bet if I powered up my phone and plugged it in, I could tag songs off of KPLZ, so why can't I do this on the IPod?

A simple Google search would have found the answer.

Since KPLZ doesn't have HDRadio, HDRadio Tagging won't work with that station.

KPLZ' RDS is fed with program name during breaks/stopsets...otherwise it's title/artist.

Right LBB, but this was during a music set. So my question is why was I able to do it on most CC stations but no others in this market on the IPod with no hd radio if RDS is on every station with the exception of KMCQ?
