I am quite surprised I had not seen any discussions of an upcoming Spanish News/Talk Radio Network? And while I know it
begins July 4, can some1 please inform at what time? I know here in LA we will have it on KTNQ, which also is still
available on KSCA HD2.
How much of this content will be news? I guess this will be 2nd time KTnQ has been NT, but also quite some years ago
our 830 was Spanish NT when they first signed on.
I had never quite understood why Spanish Languaged TV news is so popular, but in Radio, at least in Southern Cal,
seemingly hardly any news.

The network programming has a national news and commentary block in AM Drive, and Dra. Isabel afterwards. Then there is a show with Fernando Espuelas who started at KTNQ and then sports stuff / brokered shows at night and weekends. This is a better dressed up version of what Radio Cadena Univision had been offering, with new logos, new web presence and more promotion.
News / Talk was done on KTNQ starting in late 1995. When that station got into the top 10 12+ and in 25-54, KKHJ went news in drive times and talk in middays and nights, and KWKW went all talk. The three did not grow the market, so they all failed at the end.
Prior to KTNQ, 830 in OC did talk under the ownership of Danny Villanueva, but it failed and lasted about a year and a half.
In 1998, Radio Única created a network of talk station based in Miami and on 1580 in LA. It never achieved any significant ratings and went bankrupt after nearly 4 years. The programming was dreadful.
Around 2002, 830, on a much improved facility, did the networked Radio Visa talk net for about 2 and a half years. The network used many of the formerly successful KTNQ talents, but lacked a good PD for guidance and flopped badly, finally going into bankruptcy.
For a little while, KTNQ was a great talker. It even beat KFI on occasion in 25-54, generated protesters for things said on the air and had influence in the community as well as sponsoring hundreds and hundreds of community events ranging from sports to health fairs and fundraisers. The crew of Humberto Luna, El Cura Melo, Doña Mama, Amalia Gonzalez (Assistant PD and on-air), Juan Manuel Arenas, Hugo "El Gordo" Cadelago, Antonio Gonzalez, Hipólito Gamboa, Edú Villamar, Miguel Angel Cebreros, Rolando González, Alfredo Nájera, Juan Carlos Ortiz, Víctor Camacho, Dr. Villamarín, Chaim Magnum, Roberto El Tigre González, Alma Rosa Nieto, Manuel Greiware, Padre Valbuena, Dra Contrearas and many others was all local, and all dedicated to KTNQ alone.
