I'm dubious, but I'm also going to give the original poster the benefit of the doubt. He's posted 66 times on R-I, and he's not claiming to have inside information...he says a guy in the produce department where he works heard a rumor.

Here's the key phrase in the original post..."an owner/manager of a Los Angeles station."

As far as I know, there's only one of those. Could Saul Levine be up to something again?

Thank you Michael.

When I wrote "owner/manager" I meant "someone". I don't know his/her title would be. I guess it was the owner or the manager and I didn't mean to imply the owner is the manager. I don't know the term for the person who Ronn was supposedly talking to.
I had joined R-I several years ago and made a few posts. Stopped for a while and when I came back, my username and password didn't work.
I rejoined under what may be the original name. I'm in so many forums (cars, meat cutting, TENNIS), I forget.
There is a local radio forum that starts with "BA" that I went to a lot, but a genuine troll has ruined it. If you (the person who said I might be one) want to know what a real troll is, go there. I like it here better.

What about Ronn leaving KGO but staying in San Francisco but at KQED?

Yes, Owens bombed in LA, but I don't think it was all his fault.  He was trying to replace a legendary talk host who was being pushed aside and not every one liked that. Had Owens come to LA under different circumstances he might have done well.  But that was along time ago, and his time may have passed..

He said on the air (KGO) that he quit the LA job because it was too hard to do all that flying from SF to LA and back every day (week?). He didn't say anything about bombing. But I guess he wouldnt put it that way true or not.

If Ronn ever went on-air at KQED I'd cancel my membership.  He'd be out of his depth there.

Management pushed Michael Jackson aside after the bulk of listeners did the same... just as they did to Joe Pyne before him.

The fact was clear, though, that Owens' style and content did not ring any bells in LA, and the show ended, as they say in Spanish, without pity and without glory.

I can see Ronn hooking up with 910 AM, and being heavily promoted as their big "star," but KQED - forget it.  Definitiely out of his depth as DK says.

BTW - I believe Michael Jackson - the man Ronn ousted at KABC - is now a regular contributor to NPR statiion KPCC, though I'm not sure in what capacity.  Of course, Jackson has that erudite intelligence thing going for him.  Ronn - not.

I suppose Jackson was an acquired taste. To me, he was just a borderline pompous ass with a "classy" Brit accent.
