Plus As cingram Stated, It's hard to make money in the PPM era with Urban stations (with all the Negativity they're playing now). But Churban (Rhythmic/Hip-Hop)Stations would do better and will take more listeners from CHR stations then an Urban Station would.

There's probably room for another station serving some segment of the urban audience, but as William
DeVaughn once sang, be thankful for what you've got.

That was a find song. IIRC  "Diamonds in the bank, sunroof down, digging the scene with the gangster lean."  I bet over half of the population has never heard that song.  That is a shame.

I don't see Pittsburgh getting a full power R&B/Hip-Hop outlet, but somewhere down the line a possible Rhythmic Top 40 could work.

IMHO an Urban AC would bill more than Hip Hop / Rap but back to the tread.ownership.

104.7 was UAC at one time. Clear Channel couldn't sell it.

WAMO does not even subscribe to the ratings. They are just selling local spots in the community. Martz paid less than $300K for AM660, so he's getting a return on his investment. You can't put Urban on a $10million signal here.

Kiss 96.1 is probably the closest you'll get to Rhythmic CHR, even then you'd have to endure Carly Rae Jepsen and Gotye like 10 times in order to hear Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, etc. just once Tongue

Keymarket ought to turn either 103.5 or 104.3 into Urban AC and instead of the countryish Froggy motif, they could call it something more citified like Alley Cat, Stray Dog, or Squirrel radio with the jocks named after the chosen animal

103.5 or 104.3 will never be any kind of Urban format. Their primary signals don't cover enough urban areas.98.3 was the last hope for an urban format in Pittsburgh.

It would be like back in the day when Ames Dept. Stores bought Zayre Corp. and began shipping Country Goose
pillows and comforters to Zayre stores in inner-city Chicago.  (and you wonder why they're both gone now).

It was a fairly big national hit. But not one that some would remember in 2012.

There is a good deal of irony surrounding all of this.

First off, Keymarket moved FM 98.3's city of license from Charleroi to Duquesne and its tower site to the same location as WDSY, meaning for a time two rival country stations were transmitting right next to each other.

Second, FM 100.1's move to the WKST tower (more irony given the occasional urban sounds on FM 96.1) would make FM 100.1 a city-grade station in Duquesne, McKeesport and Clairton, three cities probably better served by urban sounds than country, though musical formats aren't supposed to be a consideration as far as the license goes.

Then again, the religious broadcasters with such cities of license as Beaver Falls, Millvale, Monroeville, Duquesne and Confluence probably wouldn't know any of their COLs if they suddenly woke up with their studios right in the heart of any of those cities. (Could you imagine what would be the reaction if K-Love suddenly was moved from the West Coast to Duquesne?)

Not that I should single out any broadcaster who wants to be a Pittsburgh operator but uses a COL of, say, Wilkinsburg or Braddock or Irwin or Jeannette or McKeesport or New Kensington or Greensburg or Apollo or ... you get the idea, but I again digress.
