KSBJ is selling KXGJ 89.3 Victoria
« on: July 05, 2012, 02:39:06 AM »

According to a new application filed with the FCC on 7/5/2012 KSBJ is selling KXGJ 89.3 Victoria, TX plus K210DF 89.9 Lake Jackson for $500,000 to Aleluya Christian Broadcasting which programs christian spanish music or programming. I guess this explains why KXGJ has not been promoted as one of the new NGEN stations. KSBJ may be trying to get some money back after buying KXBJ 96.9 El Campo.

I have read on the KSBJ facebook some people complaining that KXBJ 89.3 Victoria is now NGEN and they can not get a good signal for KXBJ 96.9 EL Campo. It is impossible to know other people's circumstances but most people I think have poor antenna's and cheap radio tuners because that is what is mostly sold in the marketplace and so can not get good reception of FM stations except for strong local signals.

KSBJ must not think NGEN will be supported or have an audience in Victoria on KXGJ 89.3 otherwise they would keep it. And they must think getting $500,000 is better than having a stronger signal in Victoria for KSBJ or they really need the money which I doubt. But i am not there to compare the signals for 96.9 or 89.3 in Victoria.

I also think it is odd to change the format for KXGJ 89.3 Victoria from KSBJ to NGEN at the same time it is being sold. That does not make sense to change a format for a couple of months. It teases the fans of NGEN into thinking they are getting something that will soon be lost. It is very odd.

Between the main programming on KXBJ 96.9 and NGEN on KZBJ 89.5, KSBJ has probably decided that the KXGJ signal is unnecessary.  There is also the possibility that donations and other financial support from the Victoria area have been inadequate to justify the continued operation of KXGJ.  KSBJ is a ministry, but also a non-profit business, and financial choices have to be made.

The money might be needed for a strategic acquisition elsewhere.  Still a huge area not covered by NGEN on standard FM.

The presence of 96.9 made the Lake Jackson translator unneeded as well.

That probably explains why they never built out the upgrade CP they had for it a few years ago.  But, it seems like that would have made it easier to sell.  Aleluya will probably do better with it anyway, given the demographics of Victoria.

Business is Business.. and I am guessing with the makeup of the Victoria area that KSBJ did not feel NGEN could sustain the signal ... face it.. Rock formats (Christian) have an uphill battle as is trying to get listener donations... so I am guessing their making a sound financial decision to sell it someone who can benefit with the signal.

I just hope they are selling so they can put a viable outlet for NGEN into NW Houston.  KISS San Antonio and the Wolf from DFW do a hatchet job on the Sugarland translator in Cypress as you drive around.

I would like to hear more NGEN format.  I hate that they are going to sell KXGJ.  With my portable radio I can pick up KXBJ just fine downtown Victoria.  I can even get KZAR 97.7.  Is KZBJ doing NGEN?  I can pick them up pretty good.

Why are people in Victoria complaining?  I like NGEN, 96.9 comes in clear enough if they still want to listen to KSBJ.  They also have KZAR (Air one) to choose from.
