Heavy Herb Anderson
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:48:41 PM »

Anyone have great memories of Heavy Herb Anderson?  I brought him to WKXI 94.7 in 1973, from Kansas City.  He was an extremely popular DJ then and after WKXI moved to AM 1300 in the following decade.  He also did TV weather stints at WAPT 16 and later at WTOK 11 Meridian.... and taught broadcasting classes at Jackson State U (as did I).   He and I just had a fantastic reunion  as he was passing through Mobile.  Herb is now 63 and a Baptist preacher in Jacksonville FL.

Was it really true that he had a $1 million contract? I can't imagine a radio contract like that in Jackson.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was Herb the last local jock Kixie had in the morning before switching to Tom Joyner?

Nothing but fond memories of working with Herb Anderson. I was very glad that you (J.Alex) mentioned him, as he called me several weeks ago and I didnt save the number. I hope maybe you'll share his contact info so I can call him. I worked with him in Meridian when he was working for TOK and he also worked mornings with me and Ken Stokes on Q-101. As long as I've known Herb, he's been "richly blessed". Our last visit was about 4 years ago when he came to see his daughter, we met at IHOP for breakfast. As you'd expect, he hasnt changed.
