Aircheck: J-Wave "Brand New J" service 28 October 2007
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:51:44 AM »

In 2007, Tokyo's J-Wave began to offer a separate internet stream called "Brand New J."  Brand New J is an unusual mix of western pop hits, jazz and Japanese pop hits (J-Pop).

Copyright rules appear to be much more restrictive in Japan, and there are much fewer internet streams for broadcast stations in Japan than in countries with similar populations.  In fact, sometime in 2009, Brand New J became a stream available only within Japan.

Here is a recording of "Brand New J," recorded on 28 October 2007.  The files are 192/44.1, and can be found at this folder link:

No irony there.

It's 4-3/4 years old, although I have heard much older J playback that reflects the specific period in time.  It just goes to show, given the rules that the J is well advanced with their strict copyright protections, whereas the playbacks and rehashes are stuck in time.

It's unbelievable, isn't it?  Most of the Japanese streaming sites only have podcasts of their programming.  JWave itself has its "Music HyperMarket" podcast, which I've listened to, and I find it very interesting.

"a stream available only within Japan."

Two words: PROXY SERVER.

Mmm hmmm.
