Mr. Brinkley, adopted father of supermodel Christie Brinkley, also wrote many episodes of "Medical Center,"
''Have Gun - Will Travel,'' ''Wanted: Dead or Alive,'' ''Bat Masterson'' and ''The Fugitive.''

Mr. Brinkley, adopted father of supermodel Christie Brinkley...
And to my knowledge, of no relation to either longtime broadcasting legend David Brinkley, or even author of the recently-published bio Cronkite, Douglas Brinkley.

The term is "adoptive father."  (Yes, Variety made the same error.)

There was one other Brinkley involved in broadcasting: "Dr." John R. Brinkley, infamous goat-gland quack of the 1920s-30s and sometime political candidate.
