Charleston FM flipping to sports
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:39:09 PM »

98.9, WWIK, Fun 98.9 is flipping to sports soon. They are owned by Kirkman, who also owns WTMZ 910, WJKB 950, and WQNT 1450.

It's Fun knowing when a local sports radio station flip is about to happen. Yep, Fun indeed.

Interesting.  If they put it in mono, it will help the signal around Charleston some.  Wonder what network?  The upcoming CBS network?

All the more reason for Apex to re-consider classic hits on one of their signals.  Charleston can CERTAINLY support the format.

They already have it in mono. Doesn't sound good with music, but will with sports. Don't know when they will switch. Will be soon. Maybe tomorrow or the next day. Fun hasn't posted anything on their Facebook since Thursday.

They already have ESPN on 910, Fox moved to 1450 from 1390, and Yahoo! on 950. More than likely it will be an ESPN simulcast at first. It compliments their signal well.

They also have a lot of sports play-by-play. Their main signal already has the RiverDogs, Citadel football, high school football on Friday nights, College of Charleston basketball, and they might put Clemson football on there.

Why is there a conspiracy against older music in Charleston?

I'm glad I don't live there.

But my radio listening will be a little less enjoyable in Myrtle Beach this year.

I hope they up the tempo on the branding. I have always preferred aggressive imaging.
