Sirius sound quality

I have just purchased a starmate receiver but I notice that the sound quality sounds like I am listening to music streaming on the net. Is this the way it is suppose to sound or do better receivers have better quality sound. I love the music selections but I thought the sound quality would be more like fm radio stations or cd's. I have a friend who has XM and the sound quality on his receiver is very good.

Are you using the FM transmitter to listen over your car stereo?  If so, you need to invest in a PIE adapter or something similar to hardwire the receiver to your stereo.  The sound quality is MUCH better that way.

Cassette adaptors also work very well, if you have a cassette player in your car.  Thats what I use.

I agree with Buggles, my girlfriend's car has an Exact visor unit and when I used the FM transmitter, it wasn't the best sounding, with interference; then, since she has a cassette deck in her car (factory Ford unit) I got one of those cassette deck adapters ($10 at Target) that I hooked up to the receiver thru the audio out plug and the sound is crisp and clear. I got my sister a Sportster Replay and she is using the FM transmitter with no sound/interference problems, but I think that is a better quality unit than the Exact visor receiver my girlfriend has and also the Sportster Replay came with a wire transmitter of some type that plugs into the FM transmitter plug on the unit that I figure helps with signal to the FM unit and interference...

In this early stage of the game, it is very important for the satellite companies to insist that installations be done correctly.  I keep reading posts everywhere about how XM sounds so much better than Sirius and the other way around. I have heard both networks sounding great and awfull.  My advice is to always run your FM output to an RF switch so that either the satellite reciever or the car radio antenna, but never both, go to the car radio antenna input.  Alternatively, discard the car radio antenna and run the sat rad FM output straight into the car radio antenna input.  You will never want to listen to terrestrial radio again, and if you remove the car radio antenna altogether, you will get less wind drag and maybe a few extra inches per tankfull.

Heh, I've got a Kenwood tuner (SIR-KEN1) that goes into my Kenwood SIRIUS-ready receiver (KDC-MP628) and I think it sounds somewhere between AM and FM, more like AM actually... in other words, I'm quite disapointed with the sound quality :/ It can't sound worse than using FM or a tape adapter. I've heard XM using FM and overall I think it sounds better. I'll deal with the poor sound... I've got BBC Radio 1 and my English footie It's my understanding XM uses AAC (nice) and SIRIUS uses some Lucent audio codec.

That seems to be the consensus with the reviews on the Circuit City Website for their Sirius FM Relay. Much better... i'm getting me one of these...
