Is that the guy who fired one of the staffers via a Facebook message?

Listening to Dan this morning, he talked quite a bit about how much respect he has for management, etc. He's talking the summer off, before whatever is next. So here's an idea, I know Dan has said in the past that he'd like to "own" a radio, and he does own a part of WGMD, I don't know how much, I'm sure it's a small piece. So, what if Dan and some investors were to buy one of Great Scott's stations, and went into competition with WGMD? I lot cheaper than trying to buy WGMD, and WGMD has been built around him.

Am I looking at that photo wrong, or does he have his middle finger extended in that photo? Guess no one at the Gazette noticed.

The photo was taken before the writer at the Cape Gazette was born.

Dan's a good guy. I'm sure he has something big planned. I have my own theories, but they're just that. Whatever it is, it'll be successful.

I hear some more of the story today, and although I done think it's my place to share some things I will say that the staff is not very happy about Dan leaving, and there may be more fall out to come. This station has been a money cow, that just went dry. I do not believe the owners have a clue what is happening, or what is a head. It the old days a competing broadcaster would step in and build a station around Dan, and what he's accomplished, but all the area stations owned by large groups that have either cut back to the bone (CC) or have lost some much revenue from the drop in car dealer spending, they can see an opportunity KNOCKING at the door. WGMD has always made it's money from LOCAL advertisers, and putting their businesses first, so the advertisers have gotten results, and continue to buy. It a shame no one can see the trees for the forest.

There is an open story out that Dan is moving in a religious oriented direction.

I have heard that as well, though I don't know how much weight to give it. He does, as many of us know Bill Sammons Jr., General Manager, morning host at WKNZ Harrington, 88.7 The Bridge. Bill had started The Light FM, 101.3 which had a commercial Christian Contemporary format. The station was sold to Delmarva Broadcasting to pair with WAFL/WYUS in Milford. That having been said, I think Dan has taken a lot of grief from the owners at WGMD, especially the last year, and blunted much from the employees, there is no firewall, so the changes may have just begun. I worked for Dan several years ago, I have great respect for him and what he accomplished at WGMD. He believes in Local, community radio, and has been able to prove that it can work, and work well if you super serve your advertisers and listeners. When the back to back snow storms came through in 2011, the staff lead by Dan gave the community what it needed. The advertisers "Get Results". Enough said.

I've heard that revenue has been done on the station (which isn't a surprise, revenue is down everywhere).  Gaffney said on the air he had some disagreements with Management and that played a part in his leaving.  I wonder if they wanted him to either take a pay cut or cut some of hist staff?  Maybe that's why he decided to leave because he didn't want to reduce the number of people working for him.  You are right the station was built around him.  It's hard to believe he is gone.  Even harder to believe they replaced him with a guy who has been there less than two months and much younger.  I hope Dan lands on his feet.  But there are no radio jobs anymore, especially in this area.  Unless he can buy his own.  Is it even worth it for him to do that?
