What is the longest continuous radio aircheck you have ever recorded?
« on: July 19, 2012, 08:58:10 PM »

Does Guiness keep such a record of the longest radio aircheck ever recorded?  If so, I seem to be going for that goal.  I have been recording 98.9 out of Austin since July 6, non stop onto my hard drive via MP3 files. When the hard drive gets full it is off to Nero 11 where I make a SecureDisc DVD Data copy.

So, What is your longest continuous aircheck you ever made?

Someone once gave me a whole 24 hours of Power 106 from May 1990.

Speaking of KPWR, I'm always looking for airchecks of the station from the 80s/early 90s. If you have any (and not the same 5 or 6 that everyone else has, let me know).

HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sure don't as I only have Houston, San Antonio, and Austin stuff.  Oh, and 1 Corpus Christi Hot Z 95, along with 1 B-104 Brownsville.  I will try to tape the KVNS AM Brownsville, but I have to get it on a good night.

I am looking for airchecks of Club 104 KRBE which used to be Power 104 circa May/June 1991 along with KMIX 106.7 Terrell Hills  no one seems to have those it seems like.  Good luck with your search.

Not actually "radio" per se, but when I'd go away for the weekends I'd plug an external hard drive into my satellite receiver and "aircheck" Muzak continuously during that time. When I'd return I'd have one nice big MP2 file, a couple gigabytes in size, that would play for about 50-70 hours or so.

Although the first time I did that, I left it running for a whole week. Listening to that gigantic thing was partially what turned me on to it in the first place!

I am now posting aircheck files and such on Youtube under https://youtube.com/user/oldradiotapes on an experimental basis.

When downloading any of these files, please use only the type 22 (720-P) option when available, as it provides the highest-fidelity audio (MP4/192k AAC).

I record off of VHS. I have just thrown a cassette in to record 8 straight hours of 98.1 WOGL and also have recorded the entire broadcast day as well. It's like a set it and forget it type deal.

I'm new to the aircheck thing, but I recorded about 2hrs of K279BP-103.7 in Albuquerque off their stream a couple weeks ago, in three parts. K279BP is a smooth jazz station [103.7 The Oasis, repeating KOAZ 1510 Isleta].

The Last 6 hours of MusicRadio 77 WABC. Culminating with the poignant last WABC! - Jingle- and (ding) than a reverent pause (For several beets) and the beginning of WABC's Talk Radio dynasty.

I think the longest aircheck I've ever recorded was CJFM-FM Montreal's flip from Mix 96 to Virgin Radio 96 in January 2009. I think I recorded nearly two hours' worth of audio.

The second-longest aircheck I ever recorded was probably 99X Atlanta's departure from 99.7 FM in favour of Q100 back in 2008. As we all know, 99X would return to the air on various other frequencies (97.9 FM, 99.1 FM, currently 98.9 FM) after that.

I think I got the last couple of hours of HCJB, broadcasting on shortwave from Quito, Ecuador. Never did get a verification from them, though.

My favorite was about a half-hour recording of WBML-AM, Macon, Georgia, from back in the 1960's, when they switched from their old studios on Second Street, to their new and "state-of-the-art" studios on Riverside Drive. I recorded it on a kid's reel-to-reel recorder (with 3" reels). Most of it was sounds of phone lines being disconnected and reconnected, with plenty of hum and glitching noises.

I hope that tape is still in my parents' attic some place.
